Friday Bible study Part 2
What you believe God is about to do may have nothing to do with what will actually happen.
The faith in your words will mobilize the Holy Spirit to action. All we need is a tiny bit of faith to move mountains. But the Holy Spirit will do it the way God ordains, not the way we think it should occur.
Mark 11: 22-24 So Jesus answered and said to them, “Have faith in God. For assuredly, I say to you, whoever says to this mountain, ‘Be removed and be cast into the sea,’ and does not doubt in his heart, but believes that those things he says will be done, he will have whatever he says. Therefore I say to you, whatever things you ask when you pray, believe that you receive them, and you will have them.
(Heather’s note, in a previous Bible study, Pastor Don had us count the number of times it says believe, and the number of times it says say or ask.)
We tend to, in pride, believe that it is our faith that causes the supernatural to happen. Our faith is important, but it is not the operating agent that causes the actions to be done, that is the Holy Spirit.
When we speak in faith, we free the Holy Spirit and God to work in our lives.
Unfortunately people have twisted the words to state that if you say a particular prayer, or say things in a particular way, or say with faith, that it will happen just as we say. That borders on witchcraft.
Yes, we speak, and what we speak is what affects our circumstances, but it is not the speaking – it is the Holy Spirit which is moved by our speaking which is the operating agent.
In the process of discipling a person we teach people how to use faith as an action word and to teach others how to use it, but we are powerless to accomplish this in the earth in our own faith power. We link our faith to the Holy Spirit, God and Jesus.
We think certain people (some TV evangelists and faith healers, etc) have more of an anointing than others. This is not true, we all have access to the anointing, and people have different anointings on them.
It is the person who is coming to the evangelist, the healer that is the one whose faith causes the miracle. Jesus and the woman with the flow of blood is an example, and often Jesus told people that it was their faith that brought about the healing. The evangelist and healer is the one who primes the pump of faith, but it is the faith of the person coming to God that produces the healing.
God is the one that knows what we need before we ask and He has prepared the way for our needs. We do not always know when the miracle will happen, or how. For example at the wedding in Canna we really don’t know exactly when the water was turned to wine, was it when the water was put in the jars, when the wine was poured out, when the servants were carrying the jars. It is not important when it occurred, just to give glory to God for the great miracle that He did.
1Thes 5:19-20 Do not quench the spirit. Do not despise the prophesies.
Pastor Don pointed out that often what we say, and how we act when the anointing is present can quench the spirit. The spirit could be operating, and people’s attitudes, words, beliefs or behavior can cause it to depart.
One example he gave was when people stagger into worship services an hour after it began, choosing to come in after worship music, critical of the worship leaders, or leaving early. These things can cause the Holy Spirit to not manifest (of course this is not set in stone because it is really the Sovereignty of God that determines what will occur). If people are caught up in idle chatter it can interrupt the flow of the Spirit.
(Heather’s note, we need to be humble, worshipful, respectful and careful of what we do and say. Our words do have impact and our attitude can interfere with the good that God might want to do.)
This study was challenging for me, because it is so convicting. I am often not careful with the words that I use, and God is very forgiving, but I also know that at times my words defeat what God wants to do in my life.
I am hoping you have an awesome Sunday.
Heather

In regards to your example at the end….I visited a church Wednesday night and all during the music worship most were walking around and talking to each other as if the service hadn’t started yet….this went on the entire time….I thought it was very disruptive of the flow. I don’t believe everything has to be perfect….but it would be nice if everyone started in the same hour…lol.
Have a blessed day!
Michele
Good stuff! Things may not ever “turn out” the way we expected or wanted, but God will always work things out for our good . . . and ultimately for His glory – praise God!
I like how you, or the speaker or whoever, pointed out that it isn’t our faith that accomplishes the work, but the Holy Spirit who is responding to the faith.
Thanks for the post!

Yes, I am blessed to have an awesome teacher and mentor. His name is Pastor Don Moore, and if you want to check out about him, there is a link to In His Name Ministry. There you can actually listen to him speak as there are some of his TBN TV shows, and also his tapes, and he has just published two books. Pastor Don (although He would say God did it), is the one who patiently got me to the point where I could accept Christ. His teachings are solid, and I have learned much. If you want to know more of my testimony, check out 10/7/05 entry.

This is perhaps one of the clearest explanations of faith I have ever seen. I wish some of the “happy boys” on t.v. would preach this instead of the name-it-and-claim -it stuff that is so prevalent today. Thanks for taking the time to share.
give me some time, and an open door – and it will probably happen. lord have mercy
again – some great thoughts. i may not articulate things in the exact same way, but i appreciate what you’ve presented! thanks for sharing.

I heard a wonderful country song today called “Take the wheel Jesus’ I am home now almost every Sunday taking care of autistic teens with very anti social behaviors. Ky family goes to church. I have been a mennonite, pentecostal, church of God, methodist, You name it. My husbands favorite church is the Vineyard. He takes leadership classes there but is an employed worship leader for a big Methodist church. His relatives have rejected him because he was raise Church of Christ and to them he is a backslider.
I have mixed feelings about how a service should be.The vineyard has a cafe next to the sanctuary and coming and going during a service is routine.
Hi Heather..
First chance I have had to respond to comments in the past few days. Ruth is doing “better” but still has a ways to go. We spent yesterday evening at the local Emergency Room. She has dehydrated and was really dizzy and unable to walk very far un-assisted. Plus she has not been able to eat anything much during this sickness. She has several test scheduled on Monday and then depending on how things go, another procedure on Thursday in Out-Patient Surgery. We are still trusting God for a complete healing though.
Thanks for sharing your Bible Study notes, and I pray you will have a blessed and wonderful day.
Phil
Have an awesome Sunday!!!!!!!!
Thanks for sharing-I too am in the process of learning to be more careful with my words. Its funny(or is it) that you would mention that today, since God has been speaking to me for a while about this very subject. From your notes tody,I caqn see he is not done yet. Thanks for sharing,Kari
Hi Heather! Yes, out of our mouths can come blessing or cursing! We must speak in faith if we want the mountain to move. God Bless! Lisa
Hi Heather…glad you stopped by and of course I don’t mind if you sub..I’ll do the same! Great teaching up there! Seems God is doing alot of stirring in the “spoken word can bring about life or death” because I keep reading that alot via the xangaworld! In the midst of today’s sermon Pastor Rod also said just because we have an opinion, doesn’t mean we’re suppose to give it….we need humility to shut up and only address things God wants us to! Truly amazing sermon….I want his notes! ha! I think I’ll email him and ask him for them! ha! Nice to meet you…..I look forward to sharing more with each other! God bless you! oh and snow? what’s that? hahaha we Texans don’t see much of that stuff..IF it snows it doesn’t stay long IF it stays at all. We get more ice than anything! Stay warm!! ~Gena~
Christ who began a good work in you will be faithful to complete it… he has done an amazing work in the countless lives of so many and he will do an amazing work in you… ask Him to show you a child like faith and to teach you what it means to have faith like a child… I know your past and know this would not be an easy task in the flesh… but with God all things are possible!
Hey Hether.. thanks for stopping by.. We do have so many things to be thankful for ..even the small things that we daily take for granted…… Have a blessed day……T

ryc: I totally agree w/ you on the schooling topic of our nation.
Hi there! Thank you so much for your kind words of comfort. I really appreciated them and did indeed feel comforted. Thanks again and I pray you have a blessed week!
Blessings to you. Have you read The Christian’s Secret to a Happy Life, a classic? It was recommended by a godly person I know. I have read it and thought you would like it, too. It can be found at: http://www.jesus-is-lord.com/secret.htm. You can save the website in its entirety and then read it while offline. Another wonderful thing I just discovered is the entire journal of John Wesley, found in audio (MP3)format at: http://www.ccel.org/w/wesley/journal/mp3/index.html. I downloaded them all so I can listen while travelling. I love listening and it is so insightful. Thanks for all your good work online.
Thanks for your message very enlightening!! It blessed me!
God Bless
I sure don’t mind you subscribing! Thanks for the comment!
Amen to your message .i’m blessed for this.i know sometimes I really made mistakes towards the Holy Spirit. But tnkful for He always forgave my sins.Tnx to be God.You’re Majesty.Godbless you sisiter.
Heather I just wanted to post what I had said to your comment on my blog. I am not always sure if you would read it. So here it is. Thanks for sharing your heart with me.
Micheal and Heather….I fill both of your pain and frustrations. Life can really push that panic buttom of fear and we go into action—fix it, control it, make it go away. As a psychologist I know that only our merciful Lord can transform the heart and nothing else. Only he can set us free. I believe he is doing that in both of you. It may not feel that way, but I sense he is. It is our “salvation”. It is what love does and is. Sin divides and brings death to love and that is anything but God. And so God addresses our need to control and fix things because it hinders love and hampers intimate relationships with others and with the Lord. God is relational and love and our purpose is to abide in him. He is removing those things that prevent or hinder your relationship with him. I guess all I could say is allow the cross to complete the work in you as I am allowing the cross to crucify my obsession to fix it.
Hi,
Thanks for subscribing!
In Christ,

I gotta hear Pastor Don for myself sometime…
from your notes, i’ve found deep insight that i wouldn’t have had by myself…
very true, its HOW God does the moving lest it border on being witchcraft…
IN HIM

I’m so happy to be back on xanga and reading my favorite posts, yours being one of them
I agree completely about church—I was with someone who has become leninent with their beliefs and have grown relaxed in the Lord. I felt him speaking to me about him….that it is easy to slide and become relaxed with our beliefs. We should always hold standfast to what is right and never forget what tools God has given us to function in this lifetime. You also helped me understand another blog. Her blog has been bothering me for some quite time and I couldn’t place my finger on it…and then you just said it…the Holy Spirit. She has been speaking a lot about faith but it had the absence of the Holy Spirit. It is so true…prayer, faith, and all the Godly emotions we feel in our heart is moved by the Holy Spirit. Thanks for a great entry today. Hugs
Thanks for the post may God bless you and help you through all things.
Clay
Interesting thoughts.
Awesome post my sister!!!!! thinkin of you!!!!!!
I think it’s so rude to the Holy Spirit when people are just talking when there’s a worship service in progress or especially when there is a ministry time. How in appropriate of the body of Christ! I think we have lost some of the fear of God (in a healthy sort of way) at least in the American church. We can be much too casual in our aproach to God. Yes, He is our friend, but also, He is God!!!!!! Thank you for sharing……….
thank you for commenting on my xanga and encouraging me. Also thank you for the blog entry! I’m so amazed at how God works! He brings you to people when you least expect and He encourages you when you need it and reminds you that there are other people out there who love Him sooo much and just want to help others fall in love with Him! Thank you again!
Julie:)
Thanks for your comments on my site! Here’s my response…
I love to dance, but I can’t do any dance steps, any kind of true dancing. I’d never even attempt to enter any kind of dance contest, but I have great fun “dancing.”
Regarding your statements on legalism, I think it’s a bit ironic that my graduate school, also a Christian evangelical school, did not forbid dancing. The spiritual life on that campus was much, much more alive than my undergraduate school’s spiritual life. Rules do not a spiritual life make.
Heya Heather! I hope you’re having a blessed day! Thank you for your comments! And I have read your testimony… and what a blessed and powerful testimony it is!! It’s just so wonderful and amazing at what our God Almighty can do for us! Transformations and growing in Him is absolutely the most awesome thing in the whole wide world! Hugs and prayers!!!
Hello Heather, thank you for subscribing
Very good post and very clear look at faith and prayer. God bless you!
RYC: good point. I will need to ponder the relationship between believing and faith a little more. Thanks for the insight.
Blessings,
Chuck
Thanks For stopping at my site ! My visit With My Dad went very well ..
I also reallise that some of the past needs to stay in the past !
But there was something he said that made me feel more confedant in my oun walk with the Lord ..
That is that no matter the past good or bad trusting in Him ( the Lord )
Know full well It will all come to his Glory … B/C there is nothing we can change of the past but it can sure help us undrstand how to deal with the future and not repeat the past!! Don’tcha think????
I Loved what you had to say about Faith and I also pray that people start getting that revelation…
My words have not been What God wants me to say either so i have made a pledge this new year that i would pay close attention to my mouth . =)
Thank you for your comment, Heather. It made me think. I’m going to address that in my next post, for the benefit of all. Blessings!
thank you for your kind words today on my site… they were such an encouragement to come home to after work.
Thanks, and aren’t we all…..I just messaged Larry that I am not even sure our society even understands what it means to humble ourselves and give everything over to the Lord. It just goes against the very nature of our society today. A very sad reflection of what God’s people have become…It is time for revival!
Oh, I just started The Patriarchs last night. AS with all Beth Moore’s – it will be a great study! Have a blessed week…
Hey there Heather. Thanks for keeping in touch. I have been really out of the loop lately. Had an awful Holiday season. Lots of depression and sadness. Lots of things are changing and I am being stretched into new areas and am trying not to be anxious about it. I need to raise all my own support for my new job and Satan is really trying to undermine my confidence. Thanks for continuing to be there for me and to care. You are special to me…
The ups and downs in your life must be exhausting. I know the feeling. I continue to pray and care for you…
((hugs))
Marlene
Thank you Thank you! I need all the prayers I can get!
Blessing to you and yours! Lorrie
Thanks.
I love your look here… But if at some point you want to make things a bit diff. I can help you learn how… It is easy…
Blessings,
