  • Had a wonderful time answering phones at church and came back with an awesome respect for our church secretary who does so much work at the church. Sometimes I think it is easy to take such jobs for granted, but not only does she do the little bit that I did, but oh so much more.

I have been on the computer precisely one minute and my son is asking to get on, I am defending my territory though for a few minutes.

Back to Know Your Enemy, Part 3

Pastor Don talked about how satan was cast down to the earth, and with him came 1/3 of the angels.

We then went back to Genesis, and studied the temptation of Adam and Eve. Pastor Don pointed out that that temptation was the same temptation that satan succumbed to. He told Eve that if she ate of the forbidden fruit, she would be like God knowing good and evil. satan has a limited repertoire’, and this is one of the ways that he tempts us much. Telling us the lies that we know what is best, that we can decide for ourselves, that we can pick and choose what we believe.

Truth is, we are not like God in the least, but if we buy into satan’s lies, we will end up in despair.

A careful reading of the Old Testament shows how these fallen angels started interacting with men, and produced a race of giants like Goliath. This happened in Noah’s day, and God destroyed them with the flood. But then it occurred again in a pattern, and there were races of giants like Goliath who walked the face of the earth.

Those angels who sinned such were, according to 2 Peter 2:4 “For if God did not spare the angels who sinned, but cast them down to hell and delivered them into chains of darkness, to be reserved for judgement; and did not spare the ancient world, but saved Noah, one of eight people, a preacher of righteousness, bringing in the flood on the world of the ungodly;  and turning the cities of Sodom and Gomorrah into ashes, condemned them to destruction, making then an example to those afterward would live ungodly; and delivered righteous Lot, who was oppressed by the filthy conduct of the wicked.”

These ungodly angels created a race of Nephalim. Pastor Don pointed out that many of the creatures in mythology also speak of these fallen angel’s actions,.

And yet, praise God, He had a plan to deliver us out of all of this through a line of descendants that led to Jesus.

And God even hid the line in the begats of the Bible. Pastor Don showed us this message of salvation in Chapter 5 of Genesis.

If you look at the meanings of the names in a concordance you can verify this:

    ADAM -mankind
SETH: appoint, to turn the face toward
    ENOSH- mortal grievous sorrow calamity
    CAINAN-to lament, to mourn
    MAHALALEL-God who is praised
    JARED-comes down
    ENOCH-to instruct and to consecrate
METHUSELAH-to die, to be sent forth as a prophet
    LAMECH-to be smitten and scourged
    NOAH-to give rest

    to be

    SHEM-renowned
    HAM-burning
JAPETH- to be widespread, world wide

What a wonderful blessing God has for us.

Hope you have a blessed weekend.

  • Wonderful! I just happen to be studying the Genesis chapters in our weekly Parshah (Torah portion). Your pastor’s study adds some interesting dimensions. Thank you for sharing.

  • Just stopped in to say hi!  I’ve been extremely busy also.  God is good all the time.  Prayers.  lala

  • What always have confused me .. with the fallen angels knowing humans.. is that in the new testament.. it says angels can not have sex. Sooo I’ve always been confused on the subject.

    Christina

I can’t think of the scripture as of right now.. but I’ll come back with it later.

  • it’s going to be a great weekend…have a great one too!

  • Hi Heather….praying Santa will bring another computer for you all…* hehe*

PRAYING your weekend is FAB!! GOD BLESS YOU Sweetie………………

    big hugs

  • How important names are,and the impact it has on your calling! Look at Jabez even! I was thinking about Cephas, being called the Rock. How Peter must’ve thought about that on that fateful day, when he denied our Lord.Do you wonder what went through his mind the day Jesus named him that, and what he thougth Gods purpose was for him, after he denied Christ? What mercy our God gives to us on a daily basis! Have a great worshipful Sunday! Hugs!

  • Hi  and thanks for saying hi on my site!  So nice to meet you!  God bless your sunday!

  • Thanks for ur comment. Awesome topic of study. Jesus said that angels are not like humans and dont give themselves to marraige when he was asked by the pharisees whose wife would the woman be when they got 2 heaven. Therefore angels cant have sex. Another interpretation is that the family line of cain mingled with the sons of God who were of the line of seth. I wrote this from my cell phone so its hard 2 write. Lol. God bless u. How are u doing?

  • You’re right teenagers are difficult.  I call it “practicing parenting”.  Try one thing if it doesn’t work try something different.

  • Believing is a chose!!! We choose to believe first, then our feelings will follow. Don’t expect to feel it first!!!!

love you, girl!!! You’re getting there………………..

  • getting where?

    :)

saw you stopped by. just returning the visit, and saying HI.

    *waves hand in air*

  • Hope you are having a GREAT weekend!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • The sisterchicks books are just fun reading, they are christian. I like them because they all take place in a different country.

  • RYC: Ive been off program too…and somewhat down…but I think the reason I am down is because I am off program and still limping around on my bum ankle…but starting tomorrow Im going to make a better effort to get back on track. My prayers are with you.

  • Hi there…..got a new photo of Carson feel free to come see :)

  • i think that it means, we want every one to know that we are nothing without Christ, and we are all the same without Him. He is the one that distingueshes us, and makes us holy and rightous. ttyl, God Bless!

  • Heather:  You seem to be in contact with a lot of people!  But I understand why, your kind comment at my Xanga brought tears to my eyes.   I know, you just mentioned you were praying, but then you wrote, “praying hard”.  It was like someone stopping and tending to a wound.  Our communication is just words on a screen, but they hold influence, and one I have appreciated from you at this time.

  • heather, i’m glad you were able to connect with the lyrics; I hope as my project nears completion to share more…speaking of names, tanya (my beautiful wife) and I just had our third child. Her name: Amber Rain. Amber represents the color of the Glory of God…Rain for life; for the real presence. I pray that in her life, she is always awakened to God’s  presence and Glory in her life.

    see ya around :: stoker

  • Your comment struck me so funny!  Yeah, I’m sure if I came up with that remedy EVERYONE would want to know!  HEE!

  • I enjoyed the name meanings, very informational. I’ve never heard that the fallen angels interacted with people after the flood, though. I’d have to read that in the bible for myself. Hope you had a good weekend.

  • Hey Heather!

Interesting study – cool stuff! Thanls for dropping the encouragement on my blog after the storm.

I hold church secretaries in the highest regard!

    BE blessed! Be shiney.
    Steve

  • Heather, I like the name interpretations, sheds a new light on how God works.  I have also heard Methusaleh interpreted as “when he dies it will come”  He died the year of the flood if my math is correct.  God gives us lots of info about Him if we listen.  I am curious along with a few others about the angels mixing with men too.  Maybe you can do a more detailed study of that sometime.

    Tim

  • Thanks for stopping by; I don’t mind you hanging around at all, though I can’t make any promises about anything being much worth reading. :) Also, the fact that you saw a comment on Audra’s page is cool. She is a wonderful person! And, I think I understand what you mean about appreciating the work that church staff put in, there is so much that goes on “behind the scenes.”

  • RYC:  It is not self centered to not want to suffer, even Jesus desired another way.  Take care!  Thanks for coming by, it means a lot!

  • I’ve seen that before – the name game.  That’s too kewl.  This time I’ve copied it for my new Bible. ((read: Anna’s new Bible came today and I’m TOTALLY GEEKED!!!))

Also RYC – I don’t have a picture on my site of *me* because I don’t what who I am to overshadow what I say or think or believe, if that makes sense.  I see the Matrix as THE perfect allegory of the spiritual warfare and discipleship journey of a Christian, and the picture of Trinity just keeps me in the mind that I’m fighting in a battle, and I need to remember Whose I am and what I’m to do.  I Pastor Don wants to see the real me, I posted a picture a week ago.  It’s here.

And as for the Nephilim… I knew God destroyed them and that they started another cycle up post-flood… (ironically, they’re called the race of Anak… which I immediately saw ‘Anakin’ in, but that’s just me and word association, right?)… but I could never figure out why we don’t have them now.  Is it because God told Joshua to destroy every single man, woman, and child of their races when the lands were conquered?  I’ve always wondered, y’know?

  • Thank you for the bible lesson today.

It was a interesting one.  I had never heard of the meannigs

    of those names before.

                     Mary

  • That’s very interesting about those names!

  • Hey Heather,  RYC, I’ve been in transition, as my former church decided that I’d best do ministry elsewhere, after 12 years.  With all the email, research, resume writing, etc., I’ve had little time to blog or to read others blogs.  Thanks for asking!!  I just preached my last sermon at the church, and today was my last day.  As of tomorrow, I join the ranks of the unemployed.  My wife and I have an interview with a nearby church on Wed. Night.  But it’s a half time position, so I’ve to figure out how to pay the other half of my bills each month.  Take care, and thanks again

  • ryc: I agree…I was just noticing how the color seems to get richer and deeper day by day (at least for now).

    blessings…Jim
