  • Tonight I had to attend a Boy Scout Committee meeting as I am the advancement counselor, so Jim recorded Pastor Don’s Bible study. I will not be able to share that with you until he downloads it and I am able to listen. But I promise to get it to you asap.

Some seem to be debating the woman’s place in church here and on other sites. I shared a bit of what I had been taught, but need to consult with Pastor Don about this some more before I comment anymore. He has references that may prove edifying. But until I do that, I am NOT going to comment about this as it is beyond the scope of what I am learning right now. I guess I could pull out my concordances and do the research myself, but right now time is stretched tightly.

I sometimes think there is a fine line between Biblical and legalistic, and sometimes I think some of the things debated with such vehemence tend to be very close to that borderline.

But right now I thought I would share a Biblical comparison that blew my socks off. The comparison between the birth of Jesus and the crucifixion.  (B) is birth of Jesus  (C) is crucifixion.

    1. (B) No room at the inn. Due to taxation and the vast number of people to be counted in the census Bethlehem was filled, so there was no room for Mary and Joseph in the inn.
         (C) The nation of Israel had no room for Jesus the Messiah, they did not want him to rule over them, or lead them.

    2. (B) Joseph and Mary stayed in a borrowed room (the barn) and the babe was placed in a manger, and there was where Jesus had his “first supper” which was from his mom. He was born in Bethelehem which means house of bread, and was the bread of life sent from Heaven.
    (C) Jesus celebrated the “last supper” in a borrowed room, the upper room. He broke bread and shared it with his disciples, take eat, this is my body…

    3. (B) Mary had labor pains, and when she gave birth, as in all births the water broke, there would have been blood and pain.
    (C) There was pain when the nails pierced him, and the soldier pierced his side and out came blood and water. When Eve was made from Adam’s rib, that happened after God put a deep sleep on Adam and opened Adam’s side and took a rib and fashioned Eve. This was Adam’s bride. We, as the bride of Christ, are fashioned from the sacrifice of Christ, the blood and water that came from Jesus’s side.

    4. (B) Shepherds were told about the birth at night.
      (C) When Jesus hung on the cross, it was dark from about 12-3pm, dark like night.

    5. (B) at birth Mary looked at Jesus’s body and heard him cry.
       (C) Mary stood at the foot of the cross and looked at her son’s naked body and cried for Him.

    6. (B) Jesus was born and placed in a manger, and the animals were round about Him.
     (C) When Jesus hung on the cross, he cried to His Father. As Psalm 22 says, he was surrounded by people who were like the bulls of Bashar, ravenous dogs, who roared like lions, and spit, and cursed, and shook their fists at Him.

    7. (B) Luke 2, shepherds bringing their flocks to Bethlehem.
       (C) Jesus, outside Jerusalem, said that if they smite the shepherd, the sheep would scatter. That is what happened, when Jesus was taken, the disciples scattered, except John who stayed near.

    8. (B) At His birth, Joseph and Mary saw the Lamb of God born. He became part of their family.
     (C) When the Lamb of God was sacrificed, Mary was there, Joseph wasn’t, but Jesus made sure that Mary was part of a family by linking her with John.

    9. (B) Joseph took the baby Jesus up and wrapped Him in swaddling clothes. Often the clothes were pieces of burial cloths which were soft enough for babies. And Joseph laid the baby in the manger.
      (C) Another Joseph, Joseph of Arimathea took the body of Jesus, and wrapped it in burial cloths and laid it in a tomb.

    10. (B) Wise men were looking a a star that shown and saw a sign in the sky. They went to where Jesus was, bringing gifts, one of them was myrrh which is a burial spice.
       (C) Wise women went to the tomb in the morning when the sun (a star) was in the sky, and they brought spices, most probably myrrh to the tomb to anoint the body of Jesus.

    11. (B) Shepherds tending their flocks in the field saw angels who told them to fear not, that they had tidings of great Joy, about the birth of Jesus, and that the shepherds were to spread the good news.
      (C) When the women came to the tomb they were told by an angel that Jesus was not in the tomb, that he had risen, that they should go and spread the good news.

I am always amazed at how intricately God paints pictures that show what will happen, how Jesus’ death for our sins was portrayed in His birth, not to mention all the prophesies in the Old Testament. God truly is remarkable in what He shares in His word.

Hope you have a great day. I hope to soon hear Pastor Don’s Bible study, but these next few days are rather busy. I almost can’t wait until summer vacation so that some of the after school activities are eased.

  • Hmmm… something cool to look into.

I do have some information about women in ministry (including a booklet that I can send you that the Church of God(Anderson) puts out to explain their stance on women in ministry.

    Have a beautiful day!

  • Thank you hun… : )

  • Wow, that’s really interesting!  It always amazes me how perfectly the Bible fits together…

Hope you have a wonderful day today!

  • hey, cool. here’s some that come to my mind;

*no acceptance with people, go to outer perimeter
*signs in the heavens ,star and darkness
*obvious to all who were looking for Him, looking up they saw star or cross on hill.
*both easy to see from jerusalem.
*crowds surround him in both cases.
*people were deeply affected in both times.
*word spread of Him. the shepherds went around breaking curfew and noise violations (modern idea tossed in there) and everyone knew the details according to the two on the road to emmaus.
*he went from heaven’s glory to the darkness of our world, and He then went from the presence of God the Father when He cried ‘why have You forsaken me!’

    that was a cool thought.

    take care and God bless.

  • one more; He was born in the area of th esacrificial lambs. He was the sacrificial Lamb.

  • Good morning, Heather!!!

Hope you have a BLESSED Wednesday!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • Heather…good luck on your search for the truth.  I’ll pray that God leads you in the right direction to find understanding according to HIS heart, and not the heart of MAN….  ~D~

  • Very cool thoughts.  I love how God’s plans all come together.

On women in ministry, I think you are right that this one borders more on the legalistic side.  I’m not comfortable with a female as a pastor, but I think that’s personal opinion based on feelings.  I haven’t found anything in scripture explicitly banning women from pastoral ministry.  I know in ancient Israel, all priests had to be male, but that was part of distinguishing Israel from pagan nations which had temple priestesses (aka temple prostitutes — what a way to worship, eh?).  But there certainly were female leaders in ancient Israel, like Miriam and Deborah.  I know Paul also mentioned several women who were vital to the ministry.  So I’m very interested to learn what you find out.

  • HAHA!  What I meant to say was thank you for your prayers.  You continue to be in mine as well.

    *hugs*

  • Hi Heather!  As always, I love your post.  I hope you have a very blessed day!!!

  • Hi Heather!  Wow, that is great!  We know all that, but to see that in words, prophesy in comparison, is awesome…God is awesome!

Oh, I see that you were talking about “women in church.”  I’ll just add that in our church, a nondenominational Christian church, women are not in the pastoral leadership, but we do lead Bible groups and go with people to pray and speak to them when they come forward at the “altar call.”  There are so many women who head off different ministry groups, too.  Paul spoke in 1 Timothy 3 regarding this subject…please check that out in your Bible…that’s where my pastor directed me when I had a question about that same subject.  No where in the New Testament does it say that the leadership in churches should have women in charge or as a pastor.  Hope this helps…I’ll be interested to hear what your pastor says, but won’t get into a debate about it.  I believe satan will use anything to divide Christians up, and there are some things that just aren’t issues worth dividing over, don’t you agree?  Love in Christ, Margie

  • RYC: I understand completely. As one on the receiving end of a lot of this, I like to keep the info close at hand. IMHO, all the arguing ends up being divisive rather rather than productive. People are dying without Jesus and we are arguing over who is allowed to tell them about him. *sigh*

  • That’s awesome about the birth and crucifixion similarities…I’ve never even thought about that before…There’s so much to learn…

  • Thanks for your well-wishes. I’m hoping to be a comfort to Steve while there. Thanks again.

  • I recently did a study on Women in Leadership, Id be happy to email it to you if you’d like to see it. Aside from that I wanted to congratulate you on your loss and tell you that I have been dilligently praying for you this week. Its been hard for me since the surgery since I cant move around much but if we keep supporting each other I think we can make it past the rough spots. Regarding the other matter you mentioned, I will keep that a matter of prayer also….we both struggle with it from time to time.

  • Interesting comparisons. Sorry I haven’t been by much, too much work and I’m spending too much time on xanga. LOL. Anyway, I hope you’re well today. TTFN.

  • very interesting ! Amen… God is the ultimate artist !

God Bless you abundantly Heather !

  • what if it’s the hubby?

    deleting comments on this one.

  • Thank you for your comment!!!  I know that I’ve found the same thing, that nothing but God fills that hole, no matter who you’re dating, or how much money you’re making.

  • RYC: Will you hold em while I beat em with a wet noodle????

  • I think you are right….I think that the Lord wants me to “stick” around to help my pre-ker. If that’s what I’m supposed to do then I’ll try my best to help her. Thanks for your comments.

  • Wishing you a blessed evening.

    HUGS,

    Maria

  • hmm wow.. interesting post!  thank you for your wonderful comments, i always appreciate them! God Bless always, ~E
