  • I am certain many people know this, but I was blown away when I first saw this and it has put my concordance to good use, looking up the meanings of names. So often in the Bible the names people are given also tell a story, and give another layer to the message. When Pastor Don shared this with us in Bible study it blew me away.

The generations from Adam to Noah

    ADAM – man

    SETH:-appointed

ENOSH – subject to death, to lament to mourn

    CAINAN – sorrowful

MAHALALEL – from the presence of God

    JARED – one comes down

    ENOCH – dedicated

    METHUSELAH -has sent his death

    LAMECH – poor, made low

    NOAH – rest or comfort

If you consider the meanings of the names above you see the salvation message.

Man, subject to death because of his sin nature, and from the presence of God one comes down who is dedicated, subject to death. He became poor and was made low, and his death provides rest and comfort and salvation for us.

  • WHOA!!!  That was awesome!!!  Can I copy that?

  • Feel free to copy this, it is not mine, I have heard Benny Hinn speak on this, and other pastors as well as Pastor Don.

  • Wow, I didnt know that, thats pretty neat thanks for sharing!

  • Oh, patience…. do NOT tell me you indulge in Binny Hinn-ism.  please, deny it.
Yeah, I’ve seen it before (that doesn’t make it any less wonderful, though, does it?)  **grins!**
What’s also kewl is that – this brings us from the fall of man to the destruction of the earth.
Interestingly, the age of Grace (the period we’re in now) is a parallel to this, in that
it brings us from the redemption of man to the destruction of the earth.
Further, Noah was in the ark 7 days BEFORE the flood – the same ’7′ that is predicted for the Tribulation.  Just lots of neat stuff in the OT, isn’t there!?!?!

  • God is amazing how He gave names with significance. Jesus is Savior, his purpose on earth. I read your testimony a few days ago about your homelife,I am so saddened to know that children suffer like that as a child. You mentioned having difficulty seeing God as a Father figure.I can see why. What came to my mind this morning is that maybe you can list what you think a good father would be like.Maybe in that list you can see Gods personality and see Him as the perfect father. I grew up in church and saw God as a long distance “God”. It was never emphasized or I just didnt get the fact that God wanted a personal relationship. That he is in me. He wasnt just the God of stories, but a real, loving, personal God.
The discipline of God to me is when the Lord convicts me of a weakness in my life, and I continually ignore it,he will do something to change me,if I’m ignoring Gods desire. Repentance means change, not just asking for forgiveness. Hugs to you!!

  • I was just woundering because my sister goes to the CIA! Thats all have a good day!

  • Anna, I hadn’t thought of that! That makes it even more exciting. As far as Benny Hinn, my husband channel surfs with remote control that seems permenantely attached to his hand, and he stopped on that a few years ago because it confirmed what Pastor Don taught.

Dear xenencourager, yes, I think we all have preconceived notions of God, and how we want Him to relate, and how we treat God, and it is partly why I keep searching the Word to learn more, and begin to dispell those misconceptions. It does take time though.

  • That is interesting. My name is Deborah- seeker of sweetness!

  • Praying for peace, but so often it is buried in chaos. — often just below the surface of chaos is “peace” and just below the surface of peace is “choas” — if you make your surface JESUS — there is “just below the surface”

I read the Binny Hinn comments — The man has some great teachings — not sure if I agree with everything he says or does — but then again not everyone agrees with me!!! The Word says that we MUST be very careful to judge what the Spirit is doing —– don’t say it’s of the devil when it’s of God — we are to test the spirits and that is done through the WORD of God not by opinions! Be blessed

  • Oh I never knew that.

  • That is way cool!!!!  God is so awesome!

Mind if I post that for others to see?

  • Anyone can post this as it came from teachings from various pastors. Heather

  • What I was trying to say is: With Christ there is NO FEAR — if HE is your surface the is NO just below the surface — you can live life without fear

  • …home waiting to go to the dentist- I saw your comment on some-ones site is was full of such compassion I just wanted to say God bless and wish you a happy Thursday-Always remember to forget
The things that made you sad.
    But never forget to remember
The things that made you glad.Always remember to forget
    The friends that proved untrue.
    But never forget to remember
Those that have stuck by you.Always remember to forget
    The troubles that passed away.
    But never forget to remember
The blessings that come each day
    ((Happy Saint Patricks day ))

  • No need to add anything – just to let you know I saw.  Thank you.

  • Cool !   :)

    thanx for sharing !

  • I aam going to be praying for your daughter and the phtography. Her entering as many as possibale is the best way to go so she will feel comfortable sharing her work and developing her style. With a grace suppotive mother she will be on the road to making her dreams ome true.
    God bless—

  • I can’t believe I haven’t been by here for a few days. Whoa. And this was cool. Love Anna’s comment, too. I see all kinds of parallels between OT events and the playing out of time.

Consider this – the first thing God created was time. It was his first gift. Use it wisely.

  • Most of the time, God doesn’t change us overnight. We don’t suddenly wake up and are different. It is usually one little step at a time. In fact, those steps are usually so small that we don’t even notice them til one day all of a sudden, we look back and say, “wow, I used to be this way and now I am that way”. I can see a change in you since I first started talking to you on xanga. You probably don’t see it, but others see it. Keep walking!!!

  • Several years ago I searched for the meaning of my name (Maria) and was hottified to see that it’s origent is from the word Mara which means bitter/bitterness. No, not me, my personality does not match the meaning of my name, lol!!

Thanks you for sharing, press on the goal honey bee…….

    HUGS,

    Maria

  • I had a sermon about those names and the english meanings about 3 weeks ago.   It’s awesome that you put it up on your post

  • Regarding Benny Hinn – “The Word says that we MUST be very careful to judge what the Spirit is doing —– don’t say it’s of the devil when it’s of God — we are to test the spirits and that is done through the WORD of God not by opinions!”  Matahpastah’s  comment above.    I agree.     Also, the Word declares, “Touch not my anointed.”  Benny doesn’t do the work – the One who lives in him does – the Holy Spirit. Benny is just a yielded  vessel.
