  • Little irritations

    Matthew 13:45

This is the short parable about a pearl of great price. And my pastor was saying that this is a salvation parable. He said that often we think we are irritating to God, and why would God want to save us. So we need to consider pearls. How are they formed, a little bit of sand or food gets into the oyster shell. It is very irritating to the oyster, so the oyster puts layers of aragonite (SP?) and nacur (sp?) around the irritation, layer after layer, to cover the irritating bit. This over time becomes a pearl. Smaller pearls are formed after a few years, but the beautiful pearls grow inside the oyster for 6-7 years.  And that makes for a very valuable pearl. Now six or seven years brings to mind Revelation, too.

Now we are the very valuable pearls that Christ sees, and he has covered us with His blood, bought and redeemd us at a great price.

Another interesting thing about pearls, one thing that will ruin a pearl is human sweat. So if we start getting puffed up about ourselves, feel that we are the ones doing the work, etc, in our own human energy, our own human sweat, then we will ruin the pearl of great price. It is only by letting Christ cover us that we grow in beauty.

  • That is a beutiful illustration…

  • Yes.

Oh and I knew the answer to this question, but it’s still ridiculously funny in an ironic sort of way.  I don’t remember the whole story or the bank – maybe it was several - so I will just give basic general story.  A bank was sued for not having braille at ALL ATM machines, including Drive-Thrus.  The plaintiff used the section of the Disabilities Act about equal access and won a ridiculous sum of money.  So now all banks have braille on their Drive-Thru ATMs (Drive-Thru for crying out loud!  If you need braille, you shouldn’t be driving!  DUH!  Where’s Obvious Man when you need him?) to avoid stupid litigation, like the warning on McDonald’s coffee cups telling drinkers that coffee is hot.  The Disabilities Act, another good idea in the hands of an overly-increasing unaccountable government, used and abused until it’s gone horribly wrong.  Talk about little irritations!

  • That is very good…

  • Aww, thanks. I’m thinking people must be sick of reading the same story so often hehe. ((hugs))

I hope you have a great day today.

  • I had no idea human sweat destroyed pearls.  That’s toooooo kewl!!

  • very true :)    if ya’d ever like to talk sometime, look in my profile for contact info

  • What a terrific lesson! It’s still hard to think I am an irritant to the Lord … but, it’s just like Him to make something so beautiful out of something so mucked up.

Today I’m greatful for His love and grace!

  • Thanks for your comment……I love Beth Moore teachings!  I got to go and hear her at a conference in Greensboro, NC last summer and I’ve been through a few of her Bible Studies.  I didn’t know human sweat ruins a pearl…….what a good comparison with doing things in our own strength….

  • Haha so true. “but eye-opening for I saw how easy it was to lie with statistics.” That too.

Aw, hehe. That’d be pretty cool, actually. Hmm…

  • Interesting, I didn’t know that.

  • That’s a very intriguing post. Thanks for all the scout info. We camp every month, but it tends to include a lot of work. Last month we did laser tag, and that was fun. This weekend we’re doing a 10 mile hike. Weather report isn’t pretty. Hmmm.

  • morning heather.  How is your daughters eye doing?  Any better?  How are you doing today?

  • Good morning!
RyC: Those quizzes are definately far from scientific, but sometimes fun.  I had hoped to come out a chihuahua on that, we have one and he is very loyal. And very cuddly.

As far as my finding you, I think it was through Mourning2dancings blog. Actually, I was thinking of a friend of mine when I subscribed, so I wouldn’t lose you.  Your profile, and some posts show me that you and her have a LOT in common, and I thought she might find some encouragement here through your posts.  I havent’ seen her yet so havent givin her the link.

    Have a great day!

  • God Bless You!

  • Thanks for being such an encourager to me. I so appreciate you giving me time and feedback. Blessings….

  • Thinking about you.  How are you today?  I do hope that cloud has completely lifted.

  • So True! Amen! ~E

  • I was going back through entries of yours I’ve missed and this one immediately jumped out at me… pearls.  After our whole analysis on The Pearl by Steinbeck, all of us feel like we may as well be experts.

But I never thought about anything like that, as I don’t usually because I haven’t been very involved in religion and faith.  It’s beautiful.  I love it.

Thank you for sharing all of these things with us.  I have started to gain interest again in finding a path to take, and I love reading this.

    You’re amazing.

  • bcoz of my sins then i irritated God.and i dont want that it happened.
