Mustard seed.
Seems lately that I have been learning tidbits about tiny things like salt and mustard seeds, but this is cool.
One of the women in our church knows a lot about plants and she told us that a mustard seed (the tiniest seed) is one seed that cannot be hybrid – it cannot be combined with any other seed or plant to create a new kind of mustard. It is pure.
If you think about the mustard seed of faith, that adds some interesting thoughts. The mustard seed of faith that God gives us is pure (holy), and cannot be changed into something else. Of course we have to grow it, but we cannot change what God originally gave us. And Jesus also said that birds of many kind would come and nest in its branches. Our pastor (who is back from vacation, Yeah!!!!) said that as we learn about faith in one area and gain the faith for one thing, then when a similar thing comes along we can transfer that faith from the one thing to a new situation (or the birds of many kinds). He also said that we should not beat ourselves up if we do not have perfect faith, that faith is cultivated, and grows with our experiences.
Now he also said something that I am struggling with, and can’t wait to talk more about it with him. He said that sometimes the “why” questions tear down our faith, that sometimes we have to just accept the sovereingty of God in a situation, and trust that what God did was good because in the flesh we can’t understand the why. I have a terrible problem with that. I want to know the why. I want to know how come. Some things in life seem so unfair.
What amazes me from this Bible study is that Jesus was so particular with the words that he used and the examples that he used. Who would have thought of a mustard seed being hybrid.

What a cool “tid bit”! I always remember the bright yellow hills of wild mustard plants over by the wineries where we lived in CA. It did not take much for that stuff to spead and take over a field!
What a beautiful anaology! I never knew that a musturd seed could not be a hybrid. That is such an amazing thing that Jesus knew that when he gave that anology.
You know I also struggle with Gods sovereingty vesus the free will that people have to do as they like.
I love coming here everyday Heather. Thank you for being you!
Marlene
Such a good post! Some day we will know as we are known and it will all make sense. For now as you say, we must trust the sovereingty of God.
After you talk to your pastor, could you clue me in too. I love to know the why’s too, though I don’t always get my wish.
I never knew that about mustard seeds, either. Very interesting indeed. I’m so interested in the accurate word, and this was great.
Excellent post. I also come from an abusive background and wanted the know the “whys”. Little by little I grew in faith, to come to the understanding that although I won’t know the “whys” now, I will know when the time is right. God’s grace is truly sufficient for me, but it took a while to get to this point in my life. I know that some day, He will tell you the “whys” also.
OHHHHHHHHHHHHh see you taught me too something I DID NT know………………GOD IS so wonderful….he knew what he was doing when he made this MUSTARD SEED…amen!
WHAT a great post……….TY HEATHER…you are lovely…………..love you bunches…………………Robin
Only an all-knowing God would understand the litte details to make a comparison like that!
Particular indeed.
lol yeah. Hehe, I’m sure it was something that had nothing to do with you though.
I don’t think it’s a plea for help. I’ve been talking to her for awhile now… she might do it. I wish there was a way to stop her, but she’s in the UK.
Yeah, exactly. Can’t see the light when all around there’s darkness. Not until you’re out, looking back.
Aww, that’s sweet. The memoir thing! I was thinking about that too. Want to write about it later on at some point.
“You have a wonderful heart and soul.”
Ditto, bud.

I did not know that about a mustard see either……interesting……
I agree with you pastor, faith grows as our realtionship with Christ grows founder. Faith also comes through hearing and hearing through the word of God.
Hugs and blessing,
Maria
I just wanted to reply to your comments on my blog site. You are so insightful and discerning. I have been so wounded by Christians for the last several years that I question God’s love. I know He is not responsible in my head, but it fuzzes my theology when I experience such hurtful behavior. Thanks for being willing to reach out to me. God bless you!!!!!!
cool. just stopping by to drop off some info about our group, HyAffinity Ministries. we’re planning a tour across america, and possibly one in michigan too. skits, songs, christian rock. contemporary. go to hyaffinity_ministry for more info.
have a good one. and by your calvinistic standards, this is an act of God……..so don’t argue with Him!!!!! hehehe
talk to you later:)
“Sometimes people need more to have someone walk with them, share.”
Care to take a walk together?
Great word!!! It’s good to know that God is up on the smallest details. That was some great insight. Any other nuggets that you find, just throw them out here and watch us gobble them up….lol….you know how hungry we are for the word of God. I hope that you have had a good day. You are in my prayers and anytime that you want to talk just email me. I know that “He that began a good work in you IS able to complete it.” God bless you. love you
That is wonderful Heather ! I had heard something along that line about a mustard seed… I have no doubt that God intended it to be that way ! It is truly an amazing thing, as is faith !

I like what your Pastor said about …(((as we learn about faith in one area and gain the faith for one thing, then when a similar thing comes along we can transfer that faith from the one thing to a new situation.)))
From my experience, that is so true ! But another thing I have found is that there can be a transference of faith that takes place between believers. That is one of the reasons why the Lord does not want us to be un-equally yoked and forsake the gathering of ourselves together ! We need each other and we need to draw off each other in the faith department.
Not that we are lacking faith, but because we need to exercise, feed and nurture it ! amen ?
Recently I became involved in a conversation where what I said was misconstrued. (you know what I am talking about !
The word clearly states that God has dealt to each one a measure of faith. Ro 12:3
I know this, so for me to say that someone did not have enough would have been wrong of me !
It is hard to let go of the “Why’s” and “how comes “! But we have to ! If we lean to our own understanding… we could never fully comprehend !
Thanx for the comment ! I am glad my writting makes you think .
But I post it mainly for myself, so it is nice to know that other benefit.
Bless ya !
This is awesome. I am so thankful that you post your notes from church. I learn so much when I visit here. Your truly a blessings. Blessings.

Patty

)
Thank you for your kind comment! Glad you are enjoying it. May the Lord continue to reveal Himself to you and draw you closer to Himself. He is the only safe place. Blessings to you!
Wow, that was awesome. I never knew that! : )
Who would have thought of a mustard seed being hybrid–no one but God!!!
This was an interesting post. Btw…if you are still struggling with the whys alot…you might want to check yourself for walking in your own understanding, vs. trusting God. I had the same issue for a good while…(see my study on Abram) but I’ve learned to live with trusting God and not having to understand it all. Usually…He feeds me the info in bits and pieces, and eventually, I get it, but He purposely keeps me in the dark in understanding while the circumstance is occurring, because it keeps my hands out of the pot. Peace.
