Got a lazy question for you. Today we were reading about salt losing its savor.
How does salt lose its savor? I remember how sometimes conquering countries would salt the earth and ruin it for crops. That lasted a long time. Salt was a preservative. What would make it (physical salt) lose its savor?
Thanks,
Heather

Back in the day, they kept salt in piles in a praticular place in a community. It wasn;t exactly the same as the little pieces of iodized salt we have today, more like big chunks… anyways, after a time of beingout in the elements, i.e. rain, sun, wind, etc. the salt would lose it’s salty flavor, or “savor,” making no different than any other pile of rocks.
BE blessed!

Loses its flavor when it’s diluted or contaminated (accourding to the google search I did
)
No, thank you for the comment! Heh. What your father said.. meh. ((Hugs)) But I’m glad it worked out so well.
Haha, thanks.
Aww, no need for your heart to hurt. Though I know that side of the fence. ((hugs))

I had a friend once who kept some salt in a clear container near a window where the sun came in. One day he tasted it and found that, from sitting in the sun too long, it had completely lost its flavor; it literally had no taste at all. How this works chemically I don’t know, but I tasted (or rather, didn’t taste) it myself. It’s quite real.
The point of the parable, obviously, is that salt with no flavor is a contradiction of the purpose it was made for, and is thus completely useless. As the “salt of the earth,” Christians “lose their savor” when they deny or neglect the things that make them Christians at all, as distinct from unregenerate people. C. S. Lewis put it, “Jesus Christ did not say ‘Go into all the world and tell the world that they are quite right.’ The gospel is something different. In fact, it is completely opposed to the world.” (Not exact wording– my copy of God in the Dock is not at hand.) Cf. Romans 12:1-2.
Thanks so much for this, I was able to answer my husband’s question. Zippy, that sermon is awesome.
Hopefully one day we will all be salty Christians. I know that there are days when I lose my salt, sometimes I feel way more than necessary. But I try to regain it.
I am so glad for all of you here in Xanga land.

Heather, I had to read the comments to see what the answer was. I never thought of this question. Very interesting.
Aww shucks…twernt nuthin ma’am. <giggle> I didn’t write it, I just looked it up
Glad I could help. I learned something too.
Does your chewing gum lose its flavor on the bedpost overnight?
Seriously – I’d say Pass the Aura up there has the best answer. I was going to write something similar, so thanks Eric for saving me the time. *grin*
And yeah – Its almost scary how much I’ve read and learned in the past couple of days.
Thanks again for the comment. The priest (we went to Mass last night) was pointing out that often things come into our lives that add a special spice to them. That if we do not take time to enjoy these moments, we let a lot of good things pass by. That we should never be too busy to visit with old friends, stop and enjoy the beauty of creation, let our devotions slip by. If we do, our lives will be rather bland. But there was also the comments that Pass the Aura said that He made as well.

You should know that my husband is Catholic, and we attend mass as a family, I recently became born again, and do attend Bible studies at the church where I became born again, now my husband goes to these Bible studies, but we, as a family attend Mass. As I pointed out to my husband, that he is the spiritual head of the family, and we go where he determines we go. I am just grateful that he likes the Bible studies.
