  • Our music minister taught Bible study last night because our pastor is out of town.

She spent time talking about God’s discipline of His children. How it is based on love and varies due to spiritual growth. That he disciplines the New Born way differently than he would discipline someone who is very mature in faith. The idea being that he grows us up as we grow up our children, constantly pushing them a bit further and a bit further. She talked about Hebrews 12:5 Hebrews 5:8, and Romans 12. That we will find a peaceable fruit of righteousness as we renew our minds to make more room for the mind of Christ.

She talked about being very careful what we feed, do we feed our spirit or our flesh. And that often many say they are struggling against the devil when it is really the flesh that is the struggle.

But we were rolling in the aisles laughing when she said the following: Here is the gist.

In the Old Testiment there were many sacrifices that were given which were pictures of what would take place in the New Testiment. Now, we as Christians give the sacrifice of prayer (incense), the sacrifice of praise, and the sacrifice of the flesh as we put the old behind us, pressing forward to become more Christ like.

In the Old Testiment the Israelites did a lot of sacrifices, and one example was the dedication of Solomon’s Temple, that thousands upon thousands of animals were sacrificed, making one big bar-b-que. (because they did eat some of the animals sacrificed).

So she said that our sacrifice of the flesh gives new meaning to “WELL DONE, good and faithful servant.” We rolled laughing.

But truthfully she also said that as we burn off more of the flesh, what remains is Christ-like. When it is all Christ-like, then we will no longer have the suffering connected with the flesh.

  • Eek.

    True.

Though I don’t believe in control. Hehe.

“You tend not to point out the positives in your life, and I suspect there are some. I am also curious what you feel the 10 strongest and best points of you are.”

    I don’t feel ready.

  • My girlie movies are a large mix of things. My favorite would have to be A Walk to Remember. Others include; Ever After, Never Been Kissed, 10 Things I Hate About You and others. My happy musicals are My Fair Lady and Sound of Music. I’ve always been lucky to be in a house of mostly women… so I’ve never been deprived my girlie movies.

  • Mmm…interesting.  : )  I used to go to Bible studies a lot lol (my parents made me go freshman and sophomore year of high school).  I haven’t heard that version of the “well done good and faithful servant” part he he he.  : P

  • Hmmmm. Never heard any of that before.

And anyway, regarding your question: I don’t do the welfare thing. People already look down on me enough as it is.

  • Thank you for visiting my site. Blessings.

    Patty

  • Thanks for commenting on my blog.  I appreciate the thoughts.  I have some thoughts posted beneath yours.

  • Great teaching….well done

Thanks for sharing, there aren’t many out there who teach biblical truths like this any more.  Dieing to self isn’t one of the most popular things Christians want to hear.

  • I agree with Fragrant Offering….

We are to die out to our flesh daily…. and become more Christ like..  It is tough to do ….alot call it control…but if we can’t live for Jesus on earth how can we be saved.

I’d rather live for him now then face a devils hell.

I love the lesson she gave that is so cute.

  • That’s funny! For our contemporary evening service, we have a young pastor. Last week, he was comparing being a Christian to playing guitar—that you can learn enough guitar to play easy songs around a campfire if you want, but there’s so much more to learn if you really want to. Makes sense. Then he talked about Gene Simmons and Jimi Hendrix—that Gene Simmons is a rock star because he wants the lifestyle, but Jimi Hendrix is a rock star because he loved the music so much.

Then, I swear to you, the pastor said, “Moses was a Jimi Hendrix type.” I about died, it was so funny. He really meant that Moses loved God, and so he got to be close to Him and was protected (unlike Gene Simmons, who overlooks the part he’s supposed to love and just aims for the end result).

    Church is so funny sometimes…

  • Yes, Heather. I do understand about the book. I’ve done a couple of studies like that. I did Experiencing God a few years ago. It was good, but I wasn’t really ready to hear it at that point. Like anyone else, I have issues. Those “issues” were in the way of me listening to God. They aren’t all resolved now, mind you, but that’s not the point. This particular book will take you from any level and pull you forward with it. Don’t move to the second week until you’ve absorbed the first week, but don’t stop after the first two chapters, either. The first 7 chapters are the foundation for the book, but also are the foundation of life. It meant so much I can’t even tell you to find out I have a purpose, I was wanted, and I’m part of something. I was not an accident, and neither were you. I’m nearly 40 and still struggling, so don’t let youth be a excuse, either. If/when you start, you can always ask me questions. I won’t have the answers, but I know someone who does. Be blessed.

  • no i didn’t…but my mentor shared it with me …i thought it was really good…

  • Be blessed Heather!!!  Jesus, may I be more and more like You!

  • ::hugs:: Aw, thanks for saying hi.

    And ::touched:: Thank you.

I will have to check into that.

Joan Baez.. she sang about Vietnam some, no?

    :hugs::

Thanks. I hope you find a lot to smile about today.

  • Nice insightful lesson ! :)

Sorry  … but I don’t agree with your comment !

(((((but doesn’t cover pre-Christian, or what happens to children, or abuse. ))))

as an overcomer of abuse of all kinds…  I would say that 1 & 5 would apply !

    1. God uses problems to DIRECT you.

    5. God uses problems to PERFECT you.

” You intended to harm me, but God intended it for good… “  Genesis 50:20

God is good all of the time … yet bad things will always happen.

The problems we face will either defeat us or develop us
depending on how we choose respond to them.  If we make God a part of all of them… there is always victory ! :spinning:

    Bless ya sweetie !

    Love, Tracy

  • Thanks, we are blessed with a lot of good teachers in our church. I have learned so much there. I still am not sure Tracy that 1 and 5 fit. But then again I am not so trusting in this.

  • Hehe.  That’s great.

Hm.  It’s fun to make up dances to random songs.  My sister does that.  Gets all of us laughing hysterically.

Can’t stand homework.  But of course… it takes precedence over xanga.  At least, it’s supposed to.

Thank you for all of your kind words.

    Much love.

  • Man heather…I could hardly find my way to the bottom of this comment section!

Thank you so much for caring for me and my daughter.  I appreciate you stopping by and making sure I knew you were there.  You are a very special person you know that?!!!!

  • very interesting. hehe, the bible studies i went to were never quite as interesting as yours seem to be. ;) thank you for all of your encouraging words… it means a lot to me, really. :)

  • Thanks for your comment on my site.  I posted another devotional by the people you were asking about and also posted their site at the end of the entry.  You should find the info you need if you click it……blessings!   Christy

  • I’m sorry to hear she’s been doing that to you now too. :::hugs::: I know exactly what you mean about her anger. She jumps off right from the start and it makes me sad, but we’re not the ones that have to take that. I’m sorry you had to deal with that. You might want to know that she has another site (PoeticaC) as well. “She is so angry and I am totally flustered as I never wanted to hurt her feelings, but I cannot deal with that kind of anger.” I know exactly what you mean. ::hugs::

Anytime. Thank you for sharing with me. :::hugs:::
