  • The nicks we pick.

    I was thinking about the various nicks I have come across on Xanga.

    I picked wondering at a time when I was very angry at God and was wondering where He was, why He did what he did, etc. I still have those wonders. But there is a more hopeful aspect that someone pointed out to me once. I am not there yet. That is wondering what good things will come across my path now that God is there. I dare not think on that aspect of wondering.

    My other nickname – Heather is part of one I picked when I was in the hippie days. I picked the name Heather Dawn when I made the decision to not kill myself at the age of 18. Heather (a plant growing, live and living) and Dawn (a rebirth, a reawakening, a coming anew). That was pretty much what is happening to me, but it has taken a long time to grow somewhat into that name, just as it will probably take a long time to grow into the positive aspect of wondering.

    My parents did not bother to name me, my sister had to come up with my legal name. She named me after Shirley Temple, and I do not fit that name at all. I do not sing or dance very well. I do sing in the car, but save the ears of those around me by not singing loudly in public.

    If you want, please share how you picked your nick.

    I will write about other things later, my kids are home and restless. It is a snow day and they are talking about 4-9 inches. So probably a snow day tomorrow too.

    Heather

  • Oh boy do I hear you about it being “ingrained”.  On Tracey’s site I had unwittingly written a poem.  She came by my site to ask me about it so I responded on the same entry that I left the poem on.  You may be interested in that.  You can click here for the link.  You may also like what I posted on December 13th.  There I quoted a line from The Last Leaf then posted 2 songs by Rich Mullins.  I have a followup to that post on December 15th.

    Anyway to answer your question … I used to be a nanny before I became a mom.  One little girl gave me a lot of gems.  For “stickers”, she said “geekers”; for “computer”, she said “big puter”, etc.  My name comes from how she said “strawberry” and “ice cream”.  A user name I used on message boards is “chubby-fay” which was what she called her favorite restaurant, “Old Country Buffet”.  Another child I took care of also had a few good ones.  “MacDonald’s” was “Old McDonoos”, “firefighter” was “biter-biter” and “garbage truck” was “yuck truck” -he thought that up himself.

  • The first part of mine comes from my favorite chapter in the Bible…Romans 8. I have learned so much from that one chapter and it has had such an impact on my life. It reminds me that I did nothing to earn salvation…it was all from God. It talks about how God is in control of everything. It tells me that God has my best interests at heart. It tells me of the kind of relationship God wants to have with me. The “Princess” in my nick is a reminder that I am a daughter of the King of Kings. It reminds me that God values me simply because I am His child, not because of what I can do or anything else…just because I am HIS.

    I have used “butterfly” in some of my other online names because they remind me of 2 Corinthians 5:17 where it talks about the old things passing away and all things becoming new. Another one I use quite often is joyfulsorrow129. The first part “joyfulsorrow” is a reminder that I am to praise God no matter what I am experiencing…that I am to be joyful in the midst of sorrow. The second part “129″ reminds me how to do that. 2 Corinthians 12:9 says “My grace is sufficient for you, for my strength is perfected in weakness.”

  • ::hugs::

    Nicknames or xanga names?

    Xanga name was impulsive, after a poem I wrote one.

    Nickname, hmm… Belle like Beauty in the Beast. My hs friends and I all have Disney princess nicknames haha. But I have that one because she loves to read… rather than because I think I’m gorgeous (she’s supposed to be the prettiest Disney princess).

    I hope you’re doing well today. ::hugs::
