Merry Christmas! We finally got our family picture for 2007 finished and had some fun with it.
From left to right in the blue is my oldest son Christopher, turquoise is my husband Jim, next to him is me wearing the prayer shawl I brought back from Israel, then Edward in the Jordanian headdress brought back from Israel, and then Katherine with another shawl from Israel. I figure you recognize the others in the scene. I thought Jim was wacked when he suggested this and practically begged him to take a “normal” picture, but this turned out so beautifully. I actually apologized to him because I didn’t really trust that this would come out so great. See below to see how he staged it.
Our neighbor Ryan snapped the picture, these are the figurines we used in our photo. I have to tell you it was hard for him to snap this picture for all the laughing he was doing. I don’t think he thought that the blankets, bathrobes and shawls would work.
This was a trial shot that Jim used with Christopher in the background to judge the proper distance to make the picture come together. To the left is the huge snow cave that Christopher built with the snow we had.
I have to tell you I am very impressed with my husband’s skill at this. Praying your Christmas is abundantly blessed.

Love it! Merry Christmas!!!
WOAH! Way too difficult for me! Very creative! Love the personal touches, too.
Thanks for the well wishes for A. She did OK at a Christmas party yesterday afternoon, surprisingly, but we couldn’t convince her to take it easy for the evening with family and she tuckered out. We were really worried that she would have a bummer Christmas am, but NOOOO! She woke up to potty and I was scurrying her back to bed and she stopped. Turned. Then said, “I need to go to the basement and see if Santa was here!” I said, “You’d better tell you’re dad!”
She did really great. Then we convinced her to rest until we go to hubby’s family’s. She seems like she will actually have an appetite there. By the way, thanks for the food suggestions. Until yesterday she INSISTED on only water. Which is good that she isn’t dehydrated, but we couldn’t get ANY sugar in her. She started shaking and stuff. We did get her to eat a couple of bites yesterday…trying fruit.
Very nice photo! Merry Christmas to you and your family!
lol, that is GREAT!
Merry, Merry Christmas, Heather!
Neat picture! Merry Christmas to you and yours, Heather!
Laughing so HARD! That is fantastic!
That’s just too cool. I love all the things you can create with digital stuff. Just wish I knew how and had the time to mess with it. I certainly have the camera to do stuff like this with
Hope you’re having an incredible Christmas.

There is a lot of debate over “Star Wars vs. Star Trek” as well, which doesn’t mean any of the events in either fictional construct actually happened. In any case, thank you for your unsolicited commentary on my “profession” of unbelief on this fine Christmas Day, and you have yourself a merry one.
Great photo! What a great idea.
Merry Christmas!!
Well, my conclusions about Christmas you can read on your own. As for my universal conclusions, I was not raised as a Christian, but was taught to evaluate everything in my life critically by my parents. What Christian doctrine I was exposed to pretty routinely failed these evaluations, though while growing up in this country I found it a useful defense mechanism to adopt a sort of wishy-washy agnosticism (ever seen a typical seven-year-old react to a profession of atheism? It’s not pretty).
In high school I learned a little philosophy and began publicly affirming what I’d pretty much thought from the start: I see no reason to believe anything exists which there is no evidence for. Philosophical proofs for God’s existence tend to be horribly inadequate when not viewed with a massive confirmation bias…it amazes me that “Pascal’s Wager” is considered by anyone to be a *coherent* argument, much less a *rational* one.
But at any rate, I expend no more time and effort in hating God than I expend hating, say, the monster that’s kicking my tail in a game of “Dungeons and Dragons.” I enjoy pointing out that the Old Testament God is a torturer and a mass murderer, but only to make people squirm.
Merry CHRISTmas and blessings to you and yours, Heather!
That is wonderful … I honestly thought those were life size statues …
until I scrolled down to see how it was done!
What a great photo! I love the prayer shawl you have on, too!
Hope you’ve had a wonderful day, celebrating the Greatest Gift of all …. JESUS!
Blessings,
~ Deborah <><
That’s great!! Merry Christmas, and God bless!

AWESOME idea to do it that way!!!! Beautiful family, Heather.
God bless y’all….
love u…
I hope you had a great Christmas today….I LOVE the picture! Now you make me want to get WAY more creative!
Wonderfully creative! Merry Christmas Heather! Love,Becky
Hahaha. That’s so great!
“I think a study of history would show that many non Christian societies are far more bloodthirsty than Christian societies.”
This is a non sequitur. Incidentally, I do not believe it to be the case.
“that the thought of a world without Christian values is a scary thought – imagine having a brand new car, and a person who does not feel that it is a sin to steal said car.”
Christians did not come up with the idea that stealing ought to be a crime.
“But truth be told, I can’t even begin to hold all of the universe together in my own power”
No one can, to my knowledge. Fortunately, no one needs to.
“there are too many things created that could not have evolved as those who claim evolution contend.”
As someone who is studying biology, I submit that you are misinformed. And I am familiar with all of the typical anti-evolution apologetics, before you send me links.
“For me, I found that I just didn’t want to have any being controlling me and my life, but now I realize that basically we all worship something -if not God, perhaps the altar of our egos.”
Hmm…nope. I don’t worship anything, including myself. Not all of the lessons we learn about ourselves apply to others. For instance, I have no desire to tell you how you should live or think; I have no applicable knowledge.
“But life without God is not something I want to conceive.”
Sorry. However, what occurs to me is that our personal desires and conceptions may not have any impact whatsoever on reality.
“The problem is, that a decision made now can have eternal conseqences.”
Well, I figure that if I am faced with negative eternal consequences simply for using my critical faculties and not choosing a particular one of the Earth’s many faiths to follow, that things are run a trifle unfairly.
Merry Christmas Miss Heather.
I was going to ask you where you found such life size (nearly) figures for your yard! I priced them recently just to make a statement in ours! But, discovered it is farrrrrrrrrr beyond our reach. Besides the lovely snatchers who take stuff would instantly remove Baby Jesus from the premise. .. and what is a nativity scene without Jesus. Come to think of it, what is living without Christ– there is no God-life in us without HIM! Whoever has the Son has life. . . . A blessed New Year.
hey, wow…that is fantastic!!!
“I just care about you, and hope that one day you look at things from a different perspective, perhaps removing a few blinders.”
In that case, you might wish to refrain from impugning the honesty of the vast majority of biologists, including (hopefully one day) me, my father, my mentors, and my friends.
“they haven’t found the skeletal proof that would back up those theories,”
This is factually untrue, so it suggests to me that you really don’t know enough about the issue to be debating about it. In my high school anthropology class I studied the skeletons of nearly a dozen different early human species. The field of human evolution in particular is extremely well studied.
At any rate, I suggest that your time would be better spent researching the issue (talk.origins would be a good place to start) than talking to me about it. I’m just a student, and frankly I’m not that interested in continuing this. You’re just removing my posts from your website anyway.
My mistake: for some reason I wasn’t seeing page 2. Mea culpa.
“And I think perhaps you might want to look at current research as well.”
I am an undergraduate student in biology. How could I NOT be looking at current research?
“Science and Christianity are not at odds as some would infer.”
I agree, which is why I find it extremely odd that many Christians have such an axe to grind when they meet a scientific conclusion that they don’t like.
Hahaha, when I first saw the photo, I thought those people were digitally added into it…. good shot!
What a neat idea! That looks so neat!
Happy New Year to you, Heather! I love that picture, such a great idea! Hats off to your husband! I’m learning photography, so found it very enlightening… grace and peace to you and yours for the year to come! Lois
Yes Heather, I love the photo too! I had to call all my family to come in and see it. I have only been looking on my MizLaughly blog lately, so I missed it, but thank you for the Christmas wishes. I hope you have a wonderful year. I can’t wait to come back and read the “thorn or pain” post!
