  • My friend, Julie Evans takes notes during Bible study too. She takes her notes and transforms them into poems. I asked her if I could share a few with you and she gave me her permission. I thought you would be blessed by a few powerful poems by Julie Evans.

    Covenant Defined

Don’t confuse this with something it isn’t.

A covenant is not a contract.  It is not something

you can sign and walk away from.  It is not something

one enters into without some idea of it’s power and meaning.

A covenant is an agreement between two parties.

It is a league, a team, a mutual and transparent love pact.

It is usually a stronger party agreeing to combine with a weaker party

in order to accomplish a thing greater than either party can do alone.

We have a convenant with God.  Each of us.

The more we understand the contents of that covenant,

the more fully we can occupy all it’s grace and it’s many benefits.

We have God’s Word that He will defend us, provide for us, uphold us,

direct us, guide us, listen to us, talk to us, overshadow us, heal us, hope for us and

give us the desires of our hearts.

No one has ever promised me so much.

No one has ever kept all their promises.

No one has ever forgiven me so completely.

No one has ever said I could, should, and would have it all.

I’ve never believed everything someone said.

    I’ve never not been disappointed.

I’ve never put so much into a relationship before

just because it felt so good and so right to do so.

    God’s covenant with me

brings out the very best about me.

The more I abide in His statutes and commandments

the more freedom I have and the more freedom I have

the more I abide in His statutes and commandments.

    You Alone

You alone made heaven and earth

    You alone

    You alone watch over us

    You alone

    You alone know us,

    care for us,

    hold us up,

    and send us forth.

    You alone.

You alone strike fear in hearts

    of Your enemies,

    You alone judge the nations

    You alone hold the hand

    of the brokenhearted.

    You alone comfort the ones

who have been called to stand

    in the gap,

    in the line of fire,

    in the fiery furnace, and

    in the pulpit.  You alone.

    You alone shall we call

    Wonderful

    Counselor

    Mighty God.

    1/18/07 during praise and worship

And This I Ask Of You My Lord

    And this

    and this

    and this

and this I ask of You Lord

that You would set a guard

    over mouth,

to keep watch over the door

    of my lips.

    And this

that You would keep my hand

    from evil

that You would keep my eye

    from any iniquity

that You would be a Light

    onto my path

that You would be the narrow gate

    that I must go through.

    And this

I ask that You be the first and

    the final Word

I ask that You surround me oh Lord

with the sound of Your voice

Fill me with the absolute truth

    of Your Word

    And this

    and this

and this I will give unto You

    my life and it’s influence.

  • RYC: if you like C.S. Lewis you will like N.T. Wright. Tremendous insights and really good writing. I’m not saying Wright is equal to Lewis – I haven’t read enough of his work to make such a judgment.

  • Blessings! Nice to have you visit!

  • Heather, there are so many things that bless me about you.  I see a humility that seeks to elevate others.  God bless you and thanks for sharing these beautiful reflections from your friend and sister in Christ….

    With much love,

    Paula

  • What an inspirational post!
She writes so beautifully!!  The poems really speak to the heart!
They are all very good, and I like the third one where it
    says,

“I ask that You surround me, oh Lord
with the sound of Your voice.
Fill me with the absolute truth of Your word.”

I love writing poetry…a little secret of mine…
but I’ve never thought of using my notes from church,
    or bible studies,
or anywhere I’ve been under teaching,
    to put into poetry!

I just may get out my notes and start a poetry journal, myself!!
Thank you for visiting, and for sharing this, Heather!
You have a beautiful, blessed day!!

  • Thank you for your comment. God is so good. I thank God for you and your church. I can tell that your hearts strive to be right with God and His joy is with you. He loves to confirm and reconfirm to His children. He is the most marvelous Father and the Author and the Potter of our lives.
Also, if I don’t meet you here, I hope to meet you in the air!
    ~ LOVEinHIM, Becky

  • Wow,

Could I feature one or two of these poems on my website?

  • As in http://teamtruth.com under the poetry section

  • Thanks for the good word you left me. I Have seen many times where what I do does speak more and louder than what I say. I’ve been sensing the Lord wanting me to speak up more though and I’ve been out right disobedient. The Lord is showing me what I need to do, and He’s teaching me to be faithful in following Him, and even allowing Him to guide my speech.

    Until all hear,

    Daddy

  • Appreciate you taking the time to comment so often. You are a barnabas in the female form me thinks! I also like the covenant definitions. Certainly not a taste test and if ya like it c’mon and by a box of it!

  • What a great thing she is doing!!  I have never heard of anyone doing that with their notes.  I love it!  RYC:  You are right on.  I am entering Hospice as a missionary.  I want to minister as Jesus did my doing only what I see my Father doing.  I am expecting anything, including healings, salvations and whatever else God has in mind.  I won’t pray against their mission statement, but I will however, pray for healing as God leads.  Death is part of life and it’s appointed unto each one of us to have our day of crossing over.  I would never want to get in God’s way of bringing that day for someone.  I just need to stay sensitive to Him……..Thanks for your encouragement!!  love, Christy

  • Amen! Thank you so much.

  • I just came be from coconut_hill’s site. :)   I enjoyed reading the poems and your other posts.  You have quite ministry here in Xangaland!

May the Lord continue to pour out His blessings on you!

  • Thanks so much for sharing these.. they were very inspiring… especially the thought of composing from notes. Blessings of peace on you. ~Irene

  • Heather,

    RYC @ xanga.com/eek_71

I would not say the issues you mentioned are “immaterial” all of Gods Truths are important BUT I think we essentially agree.

For example I would gladly fellowship with another believer who had a proper view of Scripture, the Person of Jesus Christ, and Salvation but differed with me in eschatology. However, if another person had my identical views on end time matters but fudged on the Trinity… or the nature of salvation… that person I would not fellowship with(as a believer) and would regard them as someone who needed the genuine Gospel.

I really appreciated those article by Pastor MacArthur. Pulpit Magazine is a good resource.

    Thanks again,
    Eric

  • WOW this is a great post! Be blessed sweet child of God!

  • Thanks for sharing. i really like the final prayer. God bless you.

  • Great Post! Love the poems……Hope you are having a Great Monday!……In Christ’s Love….Monic

  • Your quotation from Yancey on prayer is powerful: “P. 51 ‘I have learned to see prayer not as my way of establishing God’s presence, rather as my way of responding to God’s presence that is a fact whether or not I can detect it.’ “

    Blessings.

  • Great definition of a covenant!

  • Heather thanks for your comment.   I don’t think they had the knowledge of good either, because I can’t judge good without comparing it to bad, you can’t use good alone by itself to measure with, because it could keep going away from good, to end up bad, without the knowledge of bad.    We can’t even measure someone to have done something good, without the knowledge of bad.

I don’t believe one would stay sick long after eating of the tree of life, because leaves of the tree of life is for the healing of the nations, can you imagine that, sickness and diseases in the new earth, so the leaves can heal the people or nations then too.   Other wise there would be no need of the leaves of the trees of life.    Like you have said before, you can’t put God in a box, so we most thing outside of the box too.                                           Eddie

  • RYC- Yes I use to do Flylady. I think she can really motivate a person to develop some great habits. I have an aversion to schedules so it has been hard for me to stick to one, but over time I have developed habits that have developed into a loose schedule. My house stays pretty clean, but I do have to push myself to deep clean. Rearranging a room is one way I get myself to tackle a room.

  • ha-ha! you’re so funny heather!  football season is over now.  the divisional playoffs last game was yesterday.  the 2 teams going to the superbowl in miami are the chicago bears and the indianapolis colts.  the bears are the NFC champs after yesterday’s game against the New Orleans Saints, and the colts are the AFC champs after a nailbiter of a game with the New England Patriots last night.  The superbowl is sunday February 4th!

  • What a blessing, Heather. Thank you, & thank Julie for sharing these poetic gems! Poems speak quite often in such a tender way, deep in the heart. ~ Carolyn

  • DId the link finally worked?

    Try this link: http://teamtruth.com/poetry/poetry.htm

Say thank you to Julie Evans for me ahead of time!

  • Thank you for stopping by. I love your site. My site started out working with the young people at Bethel College. My granddaughter goes there. The response was great. Then it has grown to every where. The young people are searching

for God, for help and direction. I try to keep them interested in the word. The ones in college feel lost, they always had direction at home. When they are sick all they have is one another to turn to and they are all in the same boat. They are use to mom and dad telling what decision to make. Now the have to make them their self. They are finding out how we make our decisions.  God is the only way to a good decision.

God is working with me, showing me more every day. I’m 66 and still learning, I love Him so much. I want the world to know what I have and want to share it so much. I don’t understand some times why I put some of my pages on but sure God knows.

I have a person on my sit that need every ones prayers.. He was my granddaughters teacher, In his class scripture was taught a lot. even though it was a biology class. I know he is a child of God. Please pray for him.

God bless and a Jesus Hug

  • Wow, you have qutie an xanga ministry going here.  Keep up the great work Heather.

    Bless ya,

    Gord_Dawg

  • The book was “Culture Warrior” by Bill O Reilly of Fox News.  It is about the culture war now going on in the US. There is some things where I don’t agree with him, but the book speaks volumes of truth from a secular view.  I enjoied it.  Blessings!

  • Heather, thanks for stopping by.  Welcome to HeartBeat!

RYC:  I also try to reply to those who comment and post, if I have time.  But this weekend I just focused on those who posted.  I also like to go through my list and look for people I haven’t heard from in a while.

Thanks for leaving your testimony up.  It was wonderful.  The way that God has a plan for each of us is more thaqn amazing.

  • Thank the Lord for talents used for His glory!

  • “No one has ever promised me so much.
No one has ever kept all their promises.
No one has ever forgiven me so completely.
No one has ever said I could, should, and would have it all.”
