  • Read a comment on someone’s site that they were asked how much they read the Bible, the person asking read theirs two hours a day. The comment stated that they had read the Bible twice through, and now felt that that two hours would be better put to use in helping others.

Oh my heart went out to that person and I pointed out that a musician or an athlete has to practice. We too need to hone our spiritual swords, with the Bible. And if we spend the time in the Bible, we will be far more effective in the world, and most probably would be doing more what God wants us to do by being in His Word.

And that there is a depth in the Bible that can only be found by reading after reading and spending time. (my response is a paraphrase of the comment and my reply).

But it brought to mind something I learned from Pastor Don years ago, and he repeated recently in our Discipleship Class. Given the time of the year and the fact that, while I am sharing Revelation with you, I am currently back in Genesis enjoying the Beginning of the Bible, and seeing so much were the Beginning lays the foundation for the End. Reminds me of the movie the Neverending Story.

Anyway in Genesis 5 there is a geneology (or as I used to say a begat chapter, and had little use for them until you realize just how much God could put in the begats). Here are the names from Adam to Noah and his three sons – and what their names mean in Hebrew:

    ADAM -mankind
SETH – appointed, to turn the face toward
ENOSH – a mortal, grievous sorrow, calamity
    CAINAN -lament, mourn
MAHALALEL – god who is praised
    JARED – comes down
ENOCH – to instruct, to consecrate
METHUSELAH – to die, to be sent forth as a prophet
LAMECH – to be smitten, scourged
    NOAH – to give rest.

(if you read the meanings from Adam to Noah you have the salvation given to us by Jesus presented in the geneology of Adam to Noah – God had it so much in His control, now read a bit further by the following three names’ meanings.”

    SHEM – renown
    HAM – burning
    JAPETH – widespread, world-wide

And now the gospel is being spread world-wide.

I get shivers when I see how much God loves us, and how far-reaching His plan is.

  • The book of Daniel has so many true prophesies that many people have tried to prove that the book was written after 70 AD and the fall of the temple, but it was written well before Christ walked the earth. Remember that some prophesies in the Bible have a “near” and a “far” prophesy – in the case of Daniel there was the desctruction of the temple in 70 AD, but if you carefully read the prophesies you will see that there are things that have not happened yet, those will also come true in the end days.

I want to throw out a few bits of information from Daniel that may help to shed some light on the beasts of Revelation.

When will the antichrist rear his destructive head?

1st John tells us there are many antichrists in the world now, but there is one particular antichrist coming. The Jews are expecting the Christ to come, the promised one. Now the antichrist steps in the place of Christ and makes himself to be what the Jews expected of the Messiah.

What was the Christ to be?
Matthew 22:42 – son of David, ruler over Israel, rule over the World.
John 7:31 – when he came he was to suffer (Calvary), to die, raised on 3rd day
John 12:34 - When Christ came, after he suffered and rose from the dead He would remain forever and ever.

Daniel 2 talks about a dream of Nebuchadnezzar  which is an overview of world history until the coming of Christ and the setting up of His (Christ’s) kingdom which would endure forever and ever.

    4 Kingdoms in this dream

    Head of Gold – Nebuchadnezzar
    Chest of Silver – Medes/Persian
Belly of Bronze- Alexander the Great
    Legs of Iron-Roman
Feet and toes of iron and clay – to come 10 heads, etc of beast

In Daniel 7 there is another description of the four kingdoms what is interesting is that in Daniel 7 these kingdoms are presented in the reverse order of the way they are presented in Revelation 13:2, why? Because Daniel is predicting future events – looking forward, whereas Revelation is telling of events that have occurred, looking back.

    Lion – 605 BC Nebuchednezzar
    Bear – 539 BC Medes/Persians
Leopard 339 BC Alexander the Great (Greece)
4th is different and dreadful and terrifying -
10 horns and another horn – Roman empire

Daniel talks about the 70 weeks (Daniel 9:24-27) - (I am sharing my understanding of this, and I realize that there are others with differing opinions – that is fine because we must remember that the truth will happen in God’s time no matter if we believe something different, if God says something will happen, it will happen).

The word translated weeks is “sevens”, so it is seventy sevens decreed. Most scholars say that it is 490 years. It is described as a period of 7 weeks and 62 weeks : 7 + 62=69

Because the dates and times were so carefully spelled out in Daniel, Jesus was upset that the people of His time did not recognize his coming – if you count it out you would see that it accurately dates His entry into Jerusalem in the triumphal entry.

After 69 weeks, 483 years composed of 360 days per year, Jesus was crucified, and the Messiah was cut off. In AD 70 the temple and Jerusalem was destroyed by Titus, a Roman general. Many assume that this last 7 year period has not occurred, and will correlate in the future with the antichrist in the end times. We have discussed in earlier chapters of Revelation why this point of view seems to make sense. (again I know that there are others who have differing viewpoints about this).

Daniel 9:27 states that the antichrist will come and make a firm covenant for 7 years. The Jews will sacrifice grain and sacrifices in the Temple. After 3 1/2 years the covenant maker will stop the sacrifice and grain offerings, (although this does not specifically mention antichrist, it sure sounds a lot like Revelation events).

In Daniel 11 & 12, Daniel talks a lot about the king, here are a few things he says:

He will do as he pleases, he will exalt and magnify himself above every god, he will speak monstrous things against the God of gods, he will prosper until the indignation is finished, he will show no regard for gods of his father or for the desire of women, he will not show regard for any other god, he will honor a god of fortresses, whom his fathers did not know, with goodly, silver, costly stones and treasures, he will take action against the strongest fortresses and with them rule many and parcel out land for a price, the king of the south will collude with him, etc.

Daniel 12 talks about the time of distress:

such as never occurred, those asleep will awake either to everlasting death or disgrace, these words are sealed up in a book until the end of time, how long until the end of these wonders (time, times, half a time until they finish shattering the power of the holy people), many will be purged, purified, refined, the wicked will act wickedly, not understand, those with insight will understand, from that time the regular sacrifice is abolished, the abomination of desolation is set up 1,290 days, blessed is he how keeps waiting and attains 1,335 days (45 more days added)

Revelation 17:9-11 seven heads of the beast

    1. 7 mountains on which the woman sits (although some try to make this the Catholic church it is clear that often mountains are “kingdoms” and I think that these are seven kingdoms, not the seven hills of Rome)
    2. 7 kings
    3. 5 Fallen
    4. one is
    5. Other has not yet come
    6. when he comes he must remain a little while
    7. beast which was and is not is an eighth
    8. and one of the seven, and he goes to destruction.

Daniel 2:36-45 makes it clear from Nebuchadnezzar’s time until the God of Heaven sets up His kingdom there will be four kingdoms which rule over the earth. The fourth kingdom is of iron and then feet and toes of clay and iron – it puts emphasis on the 10 toes, were told that in the days of those 10 kings represented by ten toes. Then God God of heaven will set up a kingdom which will never be destroyed Daniel 2:41-44.

The ten toes of Daniel 2 and the 10 horns of Daniel 7 are parallel, and in Daniel 7 we see the little horn which arises after the 10 horns. The dominion of the little horn will be taken away  and destroyed forever and the saints of the Highest One will be given the kingdom and all dominions.

It seems that there is a possibility that the beast who is the eighth and one of the seven could be a man who becomes the leader in the final version of the fourth kingdom – that is why we are told he has the eyes and mouth of a man and utters great boasts (Daniel 7:8, 11, 20; Daniel 11:36, Revelation 13:5, II Thessalonians 2:4)

It also seems from Revelation 13:18 that God lets us know the number of the beast is the number of man, not an empire.

Here is a possible interpretation of the 7 heads of the beast (from Kay Arthur)

    1. Egypt – ruled over Israel 400 years

    2. Assyria – conquered the Northern Kingdom of Israel 722 BC.

    3. Babylon – Conquered the Southern Kingdom of Judah in 605 BC, destroyed Jerusalem and the temple in 586 BC.

    4. Medo-Persian Empire – Ruled over Israel

    5. Greece – Ruled Israel except during Maccabean period.

    6. Rome – ruled from the time they conquered Greece right through the time when John wrote Revelation, therefore the sixth head is referred to as the “one is” Rev. 17:10

(Babylon, Medo/Persian, Greece and Rome – Heads 3-6 are the four kingdoms of Daniel 2:7)

    7. The one that has not yet come, and when he comes “must remain a little while” -it is possible that this could be the revived fourth kingdom, a form of the revived Roman Empire. In speculation, could be the European Union which is composed of many nations in the old Roman Empire.

    8. The beast which was and is not, is himself also an eight, and is one of the seven, and he goes to destruction. Could be the little horn, and come out of the 7th kingdom. He would come to power after the 10 kings conquer three, then becomes the world ruler.

Regarding the last two kingdoms we can only speculate. But one thing we can be certain of is that God will win in the end.

  • Friday I had an appointment with Pastor Don, but we only had a few minutes to touch base because something came up for him that he had to do. This seldom happens, but this time it was bad timing for me. We did talk a bit, but not about the one thing that was really touching my heart, the emotional pain I had been hurting with for some time now. I guess I have a feeling that I have to tough it out, that I should know better because I have the book knowledge. That somehow I should get it together on my own, and in many situations, to not even bother God with it.

I mentioned a few of the issues to Pastor Don, telling him that I probably need to make another appointment, and in the mentioning of the few issues I started getting choked up. He offered me his office to have a good cry in, before I joined the Bible study, but the second the tears came up, they were already under control. The office would not have helped. For me tears are pushed down the second I feel them emerging.

As a kid, if I cried it could have meant my life – literally. I learned to control tears, shed the right amount, not too many/not too few. But it was controlled. When I was hurting badly I held the tears in for fear that they would get out of control, but then when I was alone and I could have cried, I was not able to shed them, for they were buried too deeply.

I don’t think that I have ever cried with abandon, or cried over the hurts I received. Pastor Don seems to think that tears are good, and help to relieve some of the stress and keeps blood pressure from rising from stress. Tears terrify me. And yet, the tears are there, and at times they rear their ugly heads, sigh. What do you think about tears?

Wish the tears would disappear, wish I could find that peaceful state that seems to elude me. Wish I could just numb out again, numb is so much better than hurting.

Guess I could use a few prayers as I cope with this stuff.

  • Before I begin my next reading of the Bible from Genesis to Revelation, not sure what I will focus on yet, I have been completing something that I began a few years ago. Using the Dake Bible and my NKJV Bible I have been marking all the prophesies, the completed ones in blue, unfulfilled ones in yellow, and partially fulfilled ones in yellow and blue. The incredible amount of fulfilled prophesies is mind-boggling. Sure adds an appreciation for the fact that if there are so many fulfilled ones, that the odds are way in favor of the unfulfilled ones being fulfilled (even besides the fact that God doesn’t lie).

This has been a hard time period for me, and I seem to be wrestling depression, and sort of want to run away from home (of course I won’t do that, but that is how I feel). I need a period of peace, and with three teens and a husband that is difficult to come by right now. I am just tired of being the hated one because I enforce what my husband tells me to tell them, and I make these unreasonable demands like do your homework, and treat each other with respect. I would give anything to have my husband take my side in an issue, but he chooses to be their friend, not their parent, sigh. I think it is harder on me because I am not entirely sure what “normal” is because of my past. Of course my pastor tells me that I am doing a phenomenal job with my kids, that they are very good ones, but I don’t know what a normal teenager life is like, having never had one.

Revelation 13:1-10 The beast from the sea

Here is an outline of the chapter.

Well, now we have events coming to a head (perhaps 7 heads) with the coming of the beast from the sea – the antichrist, and he will herald the last 3 1/2 years of the great tribulation. To date, the bride (believers are in heaven with Jesus), the two witnesses are in heaven, there are many martyrs in heaven, and there is chaos on the earth because of the seal judgements and the trumpet judgements. Soon the bowl judgements will occur and in them the Wrath of God will be complete.

In verse 1, John stands on the sand of the sea and sees a beast rising out of the sea (often in the Bible the sea or water represents nations – so the antichrist will arise out of those left on the earth).

Here is the description of this beast:

    7 heads
    10 crowns
and on his heads a blasphemous name
    Like a leopard
Feet like the feet of a bear
mouth like the mouth of a lion
The dragon (which we saw in Revelation 12:9 is satan) gives the beast his power, his throne, and great authority.

Revelation 12:3 And I saw one of his heads as if it had been mortally wounded, and his deadly wound was healed. And all the world marveled and followed the beast. So they worshipped the dragon (satan) who gave authority to the beast; and they worshiped the beast, saying, “Who is like the beast? Who is able to make war with him?”

According to verse 5, he is given a mouth speaking great things and blasphemes, and is given an authority to continue for 42 months (42 Divided by 12 = 3 1/2 years)

This will be the unholy trinity – satan – antichrist -and the little beast (mouth) who assists antichrist.

This beast will blaspheme against God, God’s name, and God’s tabernacle (the rebuilt temple at Jerusalem), and those who dwell in heaven.

This beast will make war against the saints (those who are believers who believed since the rapture) and overcome them. And the beast will be given authority over every tribe, tongue, and nation. All who dwell on the earth will worship him, (that is those whose names are not written in the Book of Life of the Lamb slain from the foundation of the world).

*** Verse 9 If anyone has an ear let him hear. This is very similar to the quote used in chapters 2 & 3 which was written to the churches – it does not say as in those chapters though, what the spirit of God says to the churches. It doesn’t add that last passage because the churches are already in Heaven.

Verse 10 He who leads into captivity shall go into captivity, he who kills with the sword must be killed with the sword. Here is the patience and faith of the saints.

It is probably a good idea to check out what other passages in the Bible have to say about the antichrist.

1 John 2:18-23 tells us that after the last hour the antichrist is coming, but in John’s day there were many antichrists – the definition of antichrist is a liar, one who denies the Father and the Son. If you deny the Son you also do not have the Father. (Today on the news with all the DiVinci code and now the Judas Gospel, we can see sure signs of many antichrists looking for ways to demean the work that Christ did on the Cross).

1 John 4: 1-6 We are warned not to believe every spirit, to test them and see whether they are from God. There will be false prophets going out into the world, and every spirit that confesses Jesus Christ has come in the flesh is from God, If they try to deny that Christ came in the flesh, is not from God, they are an antichrist.

II John 1-9 Many deceivers have gone out into the world. They do not acknowledge Jesus Christ as coming in the flesh. If you do not abide in the teaching of Christ you do not have God

I want to skip ahead a bit to give you more information of the beast (antichrist). It may be helpful to glance at Revelation 13-19 to glean more information about the beast.

    Revelation 17:8-11

The beast was and is not
He is about to come up  out of the abyss and go into destruction
Those on earth whose name is not written in the Book of Life will wonder when they see   the beast, that he was and is not and will come.
7 heads – 7 mountains on which the woman sits, 7 kings, 5 fallen, one is, and one has not yet come. who will remain a little while
The  beast is himself an 8th  and is one of the seven and he goes to destruction.

A few other things about the beast:

Where does the beast come from? The sea – from among the people.

Where does he get his power? from satan

What is the extent of his power? For how long? 42 months, the last 3 1/2 years of Daniel’s 70th week, satan gives him his power, great authority, and a throne. He is given authority over every tribe, nation, tongue, and peoples. power over all the earth, a one world ruler.

What is his rule like? aarogant words, he will appear to die but revive, he makes war with the saints, against God, dictatorial type, rules the people, forces them to take a mark in order to buy and sell, those who don’t take the mark he will execute.

Who are his associates? 2nd beast, exercises authority of the first beast in his presence to make all on earth worship the 1st beast – this second beast will perform great signs, create an image of the beast and force people to worship on fear of death, and he will make those take a mark of the beast either on their head or their hands. The kings of the earth will associate with the beast, and 3 demons like frogs empowerd by the dragon, false prophet, and Babylon.

What is his relationship with Babylon. Babylon is sitting on the beast, Babylon is reigning over all the kings of the earth, and the beast will ultimately destroy Babylon. Babylon is the dwelling place for demons and unclean spirits..

What happens to his kingdom? How? When? Babylon is destroyed. Then after Jesus’ s second coming the beast is sent to the pit.

The beast’s marked ones are hurt by first bowl being poured out on those with the mark of the beast, the 5th bowl is poured out on the beast’s kingdom and when the Lord comes the beast and false prophet are thrown into the lake of fire.

What is his end? How? When Jesus throws them in the lake of fire along with the 2nd beast. The rest of his followers are killed with the sword and all the birds are filled with their flesh.

I know that there are tons of questions about the antichrist. And we will be skipping around a bit in Revelation – so when we get to those chapters later, we may be able to go through them a bit more quickly. But I think tomorrow we will lay down a foundation about some of the characteristics of the beast and some history – as seen in Daniel, Matthew, and II Thessalonians. For it will help to add more light to the beast.

Hope you have an enjoyable day, it is the first day of the  kids’ spring break.

  • Here are a few things the Bible predicts will be signs that the world as we know it is coming to an end. It is only in this day and age that a Yes answer can be given to all of these.

     1. an increase in earthquakes
     2. an increase in unpredictable weather patterns
     3. pollution of our planet (example potable water becoming scarce)
     4. cataclysmic events in the sky
     5. wars and rumors of wars
     6. Territorial boundary disputes in the middle east
     7. Famines
     8. The formation of the Nation of Israel
     9. The Gospel of Jesus Christ will be preached around the world
    10. Instant worldwide communication
    11. An increase in knowledge
    12. Move toward a one world  government
    13. Move toward a one world economy
    14. People claiming to be the messiah (new age)
    15. An increase in the wickedness of the human race
    16. An increase in immorality
    17. An increase in materialism and self-centeredness

I think that it is safe to say that all of these criterion are being met today. Jesus told us that we would know the signs and the seasons, but we won’t know exactly the time – but all the indicators are in place.

  • Revelation 12

Now we are going to meet a cast of characters including the emerging of the antichrist which will herald the last 3 1/2 years of the great tribulation.

First we are going to look at the Woman (this woman is Mary, but is also Israel, for Jesus was descended from the tribe of David).

The first description of the woman is in verse 1 Now a great sign appeared in heaven: a woman clothed with the sun, with the moon under her feet, and on her head a garland of twelve stars. The 12 stars seem to imply the twelve tribes of Israel. We are going to see the enemy come against Israel in a big way, and even today we see anti-Semitism very rampant in our world. Here we will see the dragon coming to try and destroy the woman.

In order to understand this desire to destroy her, it would be helpful to head back to the beginning of the Bible – Genesis to see the source of the hatred for the woman and child.

In Genesis 2 Adam and Eve were created, and given God’s instructions. with the serpent coming into the scene and shedding doubt, calling God a liar by telling Eve she would not die in the day she ate the forbidden fruit, but would know good and evil. Up until that time Adam and Eve only knew good for they talked and walked with God. This act of disobedience was the entry of sin into the world. And unfortunately they did die within a day if you count days as God does, a day is as a thousand years. No one in the Bible has lived on the earth more than 1000 years, and Adam and Adam died at 930 years.

When they sinned against God, they were sent out of the Garden of Eden and away from the tree of life and the tree of the knowledge of good and evil (we will see a reappearance of the tree of life in Revelation). This was a loving gesture of God, because had Adam and Eve eaten of the tree of life they would have heaped sin upon sin, they would have suffered physical repercussions of sin and never found a way out.

In Genesis 3:15 we see God’s plan for the redemption of the earth from the sin of Adam and Eve – I will put enmity between you (satan) and the woman between your seed and her Seed; He shall bruise your head, and you shall bruise his heel.”

In basic anatomy we learn that the man has the seed, not the woman who has an egg, yet God is talking about the woman’s seed. This shows that she will not be impregnated by a man and we will see in Matthew that she is impregnated by the Holy Spirit. And that her child – Jesus will destroy satan. So, from the beginning of time as we know it, satan’s plan has been to destroy Israel where Jesus was going to come. He made a good attempt after Jesus was born by having Herod kill all the male children, but did not manage to kill Jesus, then he arranged for Jesus’ crucifixion, but Jesus rose from the dead. Now satan has been working on destroying Israel, for if there is no Israel the prophesies would not be fulfilled of Jesus coming to rescue Jerusalem in the second coming. We have seen the dispersion of the Jews, Hitler, and now the troubles in Israel of today. In fact, we know God is working on this, because no other nation in the world has ever been re-established after such a dispersion that Israel faced. Their language is again spoken in the land. No other decimated culture has ever re-established a religion. We do not have any Amelkites, Hittites, Philistines, etc. But Israel has come back to the land, the land is flourishing, and the stage is set for the second coming.

Regarding the 12 stars standing for the tribes of Israel, we can look at Genesis 37:9-11 the dream of Joseph, Then he dreamed still another dream and told it to his brothers, and said, “Look, I have dreamed another dream. And this time, the sun, the moon, and the eleven stars bowed down to me. (Joseph would be the 12th star) So he told it to his father and his brothers; and his father rebuked him and said to him, “What is this dream that you have dreamed? Shall your mother and I and  your brothers indeed come to bow down to the earth before you?” And his brothers envied him, but his father kept the matter in his mind.

Back to Revelation 12:2 – then the woman gave birth to the child (Jesus)

There are many books on astronomy (not astrology) that point out the kinds of happenings in the sky during the time of Jesus’ birth. One such idea is that the star Regulus (a kingly star) moved into the constellation Virgo.

In Verse 3 we see another sign in the heavens, that of a great, fiery dragon (which we will later see is satan) having 7 heads, 10 horns, and 7 diadems on his heads. His tail drew a third of the stars (angels) of heaven and threw them down to earth. And the dragon stood before the woman who was ready to give birth, do devour her child before it was born.

Oh there is so much in this verse for it brings to mind many prophesies. Daniel 7:7-8 which I will quote, but probably describe in greater detail later on in this chapter. After this I saw in the night visions, and behold, a fourth beast, dreadful and terrible, exceedingly strong. It had huge iron teeth; it was devouring, breaking in pieces and trampling the residue with its feet. It was different from all the beasts that were before it, and it had ten horns. I was considering the horns, and there was another horn, a little one, coming up among them, before whom three of the first horns were plucked out by the roots. And there, in this horn, were eyes like the eyes of a man, and a mouth speaking pompous words.

Also Daniel 2 talks about the image that Nebuchadnezzar dreamed – a beast which had ten toes partly of iron and clay, and talks about the different parts of the image as different kingdoms of the world. (again I will explain in more detail later).

Isaiah 21 talks about the fall of Babylon, and the fall of satan. Isaiah 14 talks about the fall of lucifer and how he came to fall so low. In verses 12-17 he is fallen from heaven and has weakened nations. Lucifer said in his heart “I will ascend into heaven, I will exalt my throne aboute the stars of God; I will also sit on the mount of the congregation on the furthest sides of the north. I will ascend above the heights of the clouds, I will be like the Most High, yet you shall be brought down to Sheol, to the lowest depths of the Pit.” And satan’s final destination will be the lake of fire.

Lucifer and the fallen angels (stars) are now walking around the earth and the heavenlies seeking to devour and destroy like a roaring lion (of course because of Jesus he has no teeth to hurt believers), and yet he also has access to Heaven – as shown in Job when satan talks with God. Remember that satan is the accuser of the brethren, and he is still at that distasteful job today.

In Revelation 12:4 we see that satan was waiting to devour the male Child who was to rule all nations with a rod of iron. (We will later see that this is a description of Jesus who will rule during the millennium with a rod of iron). He sought to destroy Jesus through the killing of babies, the crucifixion, and now he is trying to destroy Israel and interfere with God’s prophesies. This is all a last ditch attempt on satan, who is the loser in this battle.

The woman flees (verse 6) to the wilderness, to a place prepared by God, that they should feed her there 1,260 days (3 1/2 years – the last three and 3 1/2 years of Revelation.

Remember that not only is the woman Mary (who gave birth to Jesus) but Israel, the nation, which gave birth to Jesus. God will protect Israel – preserve his remnant. He has always kept a remnant of his people.

Remember how I mentioned that the stars that were cast down to earth were fallen angels. This is clearly sen in verses 7-12 of Revelation 12. Which adds more information to Isaiah 14.

That is what I LOVE about the Bible, with digging, reading and studying, we get to see more and more, and more. There is no end to the depth of knowledge in the Bible, and to think at one point I thought the Bible was insipid (sigh).

In Revelation 12:7-12 we see that there was a war in heaven – Michael and his angels fought with the dragon and his angels. There was no place for the dragon and his angels in heaven anymore – he was cast out. Here is the description of the dragon that lets us know it is satan, verse 9 So the great dragon was cast out, that serpent of old, called the devil, and satan, who deceives the whole world; he was cast to the earth, and his angels were cast out with him.

And a voice from heaven says, “Now salvation, and strength, and the kingdom of our God, and the power of His Christ have come, for the accuser of our brethren, who accused them before our God day and night, has been cast down.

How is satan overcome? By the blood of the Lamb, and by the word of their testimony.  But alas, verse 12 says, Woe to the inhabitants of the earth and the sea! For the devil has come down to you, having great wrath, because he knows that he has a short time.

Last night we were discussing end times things in our discipleship class. Tomorrow I am going to share a list of things mentioned in Matthew 24 and 25 that detail end times indicators, you will be surprised at how many of them have come true so far, more than at any other period in time.

Satan knows he has a short time, and we can see that in what is going out over the airwaves, the movies, the “wicked weather” as our tv channel calls the increase in bad weather patterns.

The dragon, being cast to earth, persecutes the woman (Israel) who gave birth to the male Child.
Now the woman was given two wings of a great eagle, to fly into the wilderness to her place where she is nourished for a time and times and 1/2 a time (3 1/2 years), from the presence of the serpent.

The serpent will spew water out of his mouth like a flood after the woman, so that she would be carried away in the flood, but the earth will swallow it up. The dragon will be enraged at the woman, and make war on the rest of her offspring who keep the commandments of God, and have the testimony of Jesus (the believers who are on earth who have come to Christ after the rapture).

Numbers 16 talks about the earth swallowing up the tents of Korah, Dathan, and Abrim, and they went down to the pit,  and the earth closed over them. Sometimes water in Revelation refers to nations (we will see that mentioned later) and those people who come against Israel God will destroy, he uses the earth, fire from heaven, and diseases to protect his people.

In Exodus 19 we see a reference to the wings of an eagle in verse 4 You have seen what I did to the Egyptians, and how I bore you on eagles’ wings and brought you to Myself.

God is seeking to bring the woman, Israel to himself. He will protect the remnant, during the final days of the tribulation. Oh pray for the peace of Jerusalem, God will honor those who honor Israel.

  • Mintel2007  ( http://www.xanga.com/mintel2007) asked an intriguing question. I am going to give what I think about it, but am opening this up to your opinions and beliefs too. I think we can all be enriched.

As we become students of the Bible, our faith will be challenged, inspired, and developed. I have been studying the Bible in a manner that I’ve never done before in my life. Praise to the Most High, my refuge! Now, I have a question for you regarding something that has been popping out at me in the Bible. I will find an argument for it, and then a few passages later I will find something to counter it. What is it that the Lord has shown YOU about predestination?

Regarding the question of predestination I know that God has said a few things that add to the picture. Psalm 139, a Psalm that at times is comforting to me and other times infuriating because God talks about how He formed our inward parts and covered us in our mother’s womb(verse 13) and verse 16 that he fashioned our days. Given my past, I often bristled at that passage for I thought what kind of love is it that gave me a past of abuse. Yet, I also see that God will replace ashes for beauty as time goes by.

From the moment the World was spoken into existence by the Word of God, he had plans. I suspect He knew that Adam and Eve would disobey and He had Jesus there to redeem the earth. Genesis 3:17 was a plan. All we need to do is read Revelation to see that God can use all to accomplish his good purpose for Him. For example the Kings of the Earth will get it in their hearts to go against Babylon. Revelation 17:17, “For God has put it into their hearts to fulfill His purpose, to be of one mind, and to give their kingdom to the best, until the words of God are fulfilled.”

Yes, God is sovereign, in control and knows what will happen, but that does not negate free will. God wants us to be able to choose, for if we do not choose to love Him, but are compelled to love Him by His strong will it isn’t love, it would be a rape of our spirits. God gave us the liberty to choose Him or not choose Him. I pray people choose Him.

We see the world in a limited perspective. We are subject to time and space, and do not see the whole picture. No matter how much we know, there is still an infinite amount of things that we do not know or perceive. God falls into that category. We have a God that is far bigger than our biggest imaginings of Him, and that is a good thing. I wouldn’t want a God that I could completely predict and understand, what good would that be. Often we won’t see the incredible workings of God until in retrospect.

God loves to surprise His people and do things in ways that seem impossible. He had Gideon greatly reduce His army so that the odds were impossible, and by breaking a pottery lamp and shouting the enemy was confused and defeated. Joshua marched around Jericho and shouted and the walls tumbled. Jesus was born of a virgin, and did not act the role of great warrior king that the Israelites assumed would be coming. God created water from a rock, manna in the wilderness, parted the Red Sea. He asks Job very pointed questions about the creation of the earth and the sustaining of the creatures.

I was able to see that even though during my pagan days I used to walk around saying, “Thou are god” and believing that I was in control of my universe, that really I was in control of NOTHING. I can’t keep my heart pumping 24/7/365. I can’t control my breathing, my thoughts can run rampant, I can’t create new life from nothing. Any control I have is an illusion.

God can provide free will and at the same time know what is going on. Our pastor once had someone stand up on the altar, and had people walking around the aisles, with others being roadblocks in the middle of certain aisles. Only God from his elevated perspective could see the entire “road”, the people walking would not know where the roadblocks were. God is not a control freak, but if we want to walk smoothly through life, he wants us in constant communication with Him. When Adam and Eve ate from the tree of the knowledge of good and evil, they thought they were gaining an independence and being more like God, instead they put themselves under bondage. Before the fruit, they knew only good and walked closely with God. After the fruit they hid, had to cover themselves and gained a knowledge of evil. God wants the best for us, so it comes down to trusting God.

There is an incredible book called FLATLAND (I put up the link to the book). It talks about two-dimensional creatures, circle, line, triangle and one of the creatures talks about the 3rd dimension. His fellow creatures think he is insane for there is no third dimension in their world, and if the third dimension intersects their world it is only at a few points.

When God intersects our world it often goes unnoticed. But that does not mean that He isn’t there.

We are not big enough to conceive of all that God can conceive. His thoughts are greater than our thoughts. I think we just have to trust. We can have free will and predestination simultaneously, and God can do it.

    Hope that helps.

  • Wanted to share an awesome encounter today. I help out a few times a year with the 7th grade sewing class. This class is required for all seventh graders. Some have their acts together, others can’t quite get organized. The teacher puts me next to the ones that need a bit of help to get at least the paperwork together so they can pass the course. So I often sit next to the kids that seem to have lost hope in themselves. One of the children I worked with today was dressed in goth, with dog collars, wristlets with spikes, and a black band that stated, “how can I ignore you today?” While we were sitting together, her and her three friends, we chatted. I go in there praying hard for these kids and an opportunity to speak a word of love into their lives.

So in our chatting I mentioned I liked her wrist band. She seemed startled and said most adults were scared by her outfits. I told her I wasn’t. And then I added, “I tend not to look at outward appearances, but rather look to the heart of a person.” She listened, and her three friend’s heads snapped up in surprise. I added that I suspected that she had a good heart. She won’t have the class tomorrow, but I am hoping that on Wednesday when I see her that we can continue talking. I pray hard for these kids. So many kids these days come from broken homes, and are hurting big time. I can relate because when I was a kid I dressed as much like a hippie as I could get away with, and also was one of the “odd” ones. My heart goes out to the hurting ones.

Tomorrow is our Woman’s Bible study – the Beth Moore Breaking Free. I am in awe of God for how much He has changed me from when I first laid eyes on this study. Now I can realize my need for relationship with Him, the anger is almost all gone (I guess it will sometimes come up but nothing like when I first walked into this group.) I just finished a three year going through the Bible in detail and from Genesis to Revelation and I have changed so much. Can’t wait until I get back into Genesis to see what more God will reveal. What depth is in the Word of God and to think that at one time I thought it so insipid.

This week in Breaking Free the discussion is in removing obstacles to a free life in Christ. the major obstacles are unbelief, pride, idolatry, prayerlessness and legalism. I suspect that in my walk each of these will at times raise their heads. Last year I struggled with unbelief, and while I still have to pray, “Lord I believe, Help my unbelief.” I find that I believe more in God than ever before – due to this walk through the Bible when I focused on promises and prophesies and their fulfillments.  Pride is always there, but for me it is often a hidden pride – feeling that I am not worthy of God’s love, feeling that if He really saw that I was in His kingdom He would kick me out – puffed up isn’t always what I deal with, but insecurity and a need for affirmation is also an element of pride and I do struggle with that.

This week the one that hit me was prayerlessness – oh I pray, and speak with God, often when I drive I will comment on things on my mind, praise God for his creation. When things are tough I pray, and I do start my day and end my day with a brief prayer. But I have found that sometimes I substitute lots of Bible study for prayer, and realize that I need to spend more time focused on God, and more time listening for that still small voice that guides. I often feel that I have to have it all together and bring my all together self to God. But really God wants me to bring myself to Him, even weak and broken. I also still have areas in me that I kind of block off to God and am trying to open them up.

I know that there are idols in my life, and right now my biggest isn’t even tangible, it is control, the need to be in total control of my emotions and the situations around me. I just don’t trust God as much as I ought to, so end up in more worry than ever.

Legalism isn’t as much of a problem for me right now, being so recently saved – 4 years, but I have several legalists that I deal with and it is hard not to react, just to love and model God’s love. Sometimes it makes me angry when people are so forceful in their opinions and oppress others by their demands. But I suspect that there are times when I am more busy watching others and thinking thoughts that are none of my business. Far better to remember to focus on God.

Beth ended her lesson with an important statement, on page 70 of the workbook, “God’s specialty is rolling away a stone. Show Him which one is causing you trouble, put your hands on top of His, and on the count of three…”

Well I have a few stones to roll away. And I suspect if I rid myself of those there are others below the surface that will push up just like stones do in a field. But, even though there are stones to roll away, many have already been pushed away, and God is continually changing me. I am so grateful to Him, for I am not the person I was a few years ago, and I know that He will keep working, for His word will not be in vain.

Please pray for me as I continue to roll away stones, and please especially pray for the kids I am working with, that God will guide me to plant a good Word into them, so that they can see a bit of God’s love in their lives.

Also please pray for my kids (teens and all that entails), and my husband that he makes wise choices regarding his health and finances.

Thanks so much, Tomorrow I will continue with Revelation studies.

  • For Darlena, here is the book I am talking about. This is an awesome books that explains the 23rd Psalm and really gives us a good look at Jesus and how he takes care of us sheep, who are not all that smart.
