Here is another entry that God has put on my heart to put up from Pastor Don Moore’s Discipleship Manual regarding demons. It comes from pages 153 and 154
Setting the Captives Free
When in a meeting where emotions are high and many manifestations of God’s power are shown (deliverances, healings, signs and wonders), know that demonic spirits, if present, are looking for opportunity to manifest and occupy. Deliverance meetings set people free, but freed spirits look for somewhere else to go – “watch and pray”, and protect. If a demon of depression is cast out in a meeting, you can be sure that before leaving the building he scans the room for someone that has a problem with depression.
In the Book of Acts, Chapter 19, we are told that the sons of Sceva were beaten by a demon possessed man when they tried to use the Name of Jesus improperly. The Scevas were not authorized by the Holy Spirit to use Jesus’ Name and the Holy Spirit was not present to protect them. Many Christians do not respect the laws of transference laying on of hands and anointing, and get into trouble. Personal sin cannot be present when we are going to deal with demons – sins must be confessed and forgiven or the demon can accuse and counter attack. Pride must not be the motive – “showing off” has no place in warfare.
The unction (powerful leading) of the Holy Spirit must be present, as the Holy Spirit is the power to “protect us” and overpower the demonic. The demonic can overpower the natural, but not the Holy Spirit and the Name of Jesus.
I remember once being told by a demon that the host (person) had invited the demon in and that the demon had his permission to stay. When the host’s will changed, then out came the demon.
Another demon threatened me, “I’ll tear you up!” He snarled, “Who do you think you are?” I replied, “I’m nobody, but the Lord I serve is Jesus and you will do nothing to me!” The demon then made the host leave the room. The Holy Spirit urged me to follow him. I cornered him in another room and asked if the host wanted freedom. He responded, “Yes!” I then told the demon he could not speak and he had to come out – and immediately he did. This young man had been very violent and super strong, but now as a tender, graceful, loving teenager.
I did not touch him until after the demon was cast out. Notice in the Scripture that Jesus did not lay hands on any demon possessed person, yet I am appalled to see Christians “playing Bible” and touching anyone and everyone. This “religious tradition” is in error, and many people are opening themselves to attack. I saw a man who wanted to be noticed and praised as a prayer warrior so he, unaware, laid hands on and repeatedly prayed over a demon-possessed woman. They were laughing and “playing prayer.” My warnings were not heeded and the man picked up a spirit of depression that took about 6 months to get free of.
We have two contrasting examples: In the first situation, I was under the unction and protection of the Holy Spirit and, though the young man’s demon had subdued many hospital orderlies, he feared and obeyed the Name of Jesus and that power. The other is an example of error upon error. We must fear God and respect the things of the supernatural. Touch can lead to transference and then warfare. Without a strong anointing, this is dangerous and improper.
Finally, no one can stand for Jesus against satan without his sins confessed and curbing of the sins of their flesh. The accuser of the brethren, satan (Rev. 12), can gain legal right to attack and disable. The heart and the eye must be pure and focused on Jesus.
We must recognize that most of Jesus’ great miracles were done in private or small groups with just a few people. This is because the unbelief of the group can hold back the blessing and limit faith. There is a place for public displays of power, but only as the unction leads. There is no normal way that patterns how the Holy Spirit will move. Sometimes command, sometimes pray, sometimes oil, sometimes spit, clay, laugh, touch, slap, etc. We are the vessel, not the master, and we must observe the laws and the leading.
We must notice that Jesus sent out the 12 and the 70 and in some cases they got over their heads. Go to the Pastor or other elders and ask who to pray with and when. It is the elder’s job to know, and God has covered them with special anointing in their pasture. The Christian walk can be fun, but it is not a game. Never minister to people at a different church without the head Elder’s approval. The Spirit placed them there and will not override their authority, but satan will. Seek to come into agreement with the prayer leaders – Why are they here? What is the prayer need? What do they want from God? etc. (More on this later). God has laws of transference; know them and respect them.
***Heather’s extra note, and if a demonic force is cast out of a person remember to fill up the empty room with God’s word and discipleship, for Jesus told people that the demon will come back with friends and re-take possession of there is nothing put in place of the outcast demon’s abode.
In the lecture that accompanied this passage
Pastor Don pointed out about King Saul and the demons who possessed him, and how they were trying to destroy the anointed one, David.
He also warned us that if we pound on the devil’s kingdom, he is going to try and get us back, so we have to have a committed will, we have to stay prayed up, we have to make sure we have confessed our sins, and at times the Holy Spirit will bring to mind sins that need confessing.
He also pointed out that if you are in a room full of believers, it is good to ask the Holy Spirit if there is anyone who is vulnerable to that particular demon that needs casting out, if so it would be better to pray with the person in another room. Pastor Don has said that he also tells the demon that he cannot enter any in the area, in the church, in the parking lot, and also he tells the demon to go where Jesus would send him. We cannot cast a demon to hell, even Jesus let the demons go into the pigs, we have to cast the demon out and make them leave the area.
Remember demons are dis-embodied, and are looking for a host, so we have to make sure that we give them no inroute to oppress us – once we are saved and sealed by the Holy Spirit we can be oppressed by the demons, not possessed.
It is also important to know when you are not trained for a particular spiritual activity, and reach out for the help of a pastor or elder. If you pray for a person, but pray with unbelief, and the healing or deliverance does not come, not only have you not done the person any good, but you may actually have put a barrier in their path, or made it harder for the person who follows to do the work necessary.

Amen! This is very important information to know. I took a class on spiritual warfare at Church on the Way (a Foursquare congregation founded by Jack Hayford) — they told us it is very important to bind the demon before casting out because then they can’t hurt anybody on the way out. I’d read this also in a book on healing by Francis MacNutt. People need to really realize to the bottoms of their toes this is not stuff to play with, but to do only as God leads — it is by HIS spirit, not our “power”, that these things are done, in the name of Jesus. Thank you, Heather. God bless you, Gerrie
I wish that the majority of the people within the church realized the seriousness of the warfare that was going on around them all the time. I don’t believe in seeing a demon around every corner, or blaming Satan where I feel the flesh in itself is often the culpret of man’s sin… but the supernatural world around us bears grave attention and more would be likely to be prepared for the battles that ensue and have their spiritual eyes keen to what is actually occurring around them if they realized that Satan rules over this world and with the help of his demons is still in the business of possessing the lost and oppressing the saved. Most just want to stay ignorant to the problem thinking that being blind to it will keep it from visiting their door. Thank you for being a voice for an important reminder. ~Sherry
Me too, Heather.
Thanks.
“If a demon of depression is cast out in a meeting, you can be sure that before leaving the building he scans the room for someone that has a problem with depression.”
reminds me of when Jesus told the legion to go into the pigs, or rather they asked Jesus for permission to go into the pigs, because they do not want to be without form.
“Many Christians do not respect the laws of transference laying on of hands and anointing, and get into trouble.”
yes, i dun even understand why they “stretch” their hands forth when they pray for someone either. but i spose laying hands on someone is more of a “comfort” thing for the ones prayed for, but definately as this post pointed out a real danger when we do things without realizing what we’re doing.
” Pride must not be the motive – “showing off” has no place in warfare. The unction (powerful leading) of the Holy Spirit must be present, as the Holy Spirit is the power to “protect us” and overpower the demonic. The demonic can overpower the natural, but not the Holy Spirit and the Name of Jesus.”
amen to that. i think it is especially important in demonic intercession among other ministries to really “let the Spirit lead” because the Lord directs our ministries, He knows what we’re ready for or not, and when we decide we’re in control of our ministry, it no longer becomes His ministry.
” I did not touch him until after the demon was cast out. Notice in the Scripture that Jesus did not lay hands on any demon possessed person, yet I am appalled to see Christians “playing Bible” and touching anyone and everyone. This “religious tradition” is in error,”
most things Christians do today are religious traditions, unfortunely. kudos on this deliverance, very nicely done. very authorative.
“Finally, no one can stand for Jesus against satan without his sins confessed and curbing of the sins of their flesh. “
yes, extremely very important. one sometimes i forget to do. good thing i don’t really do close quarter intercession, not ready for that yet.
but even praying for someone from afar, it is important to confess any sins and inequities in our hearts.
“We must recognize that most of Jesus’ great miracles were done in private or small groups with just a few people. This is because the unbelief of the group can hold back the blessing and limit faith.”
nice, i really enjoy this post, it’s hitting one strong point after another. nicely done.
“Never minister to people at a different church without the head Elder’s approval. The Spirit placed them there and will not override their authority, but satan will.”
that would depend on the definition of ministry, because as you already know that our primary ministry is living as witness of Christ. but in sense of involvement with guiding direction of the church then yes, one must of course meet up with the leadership first. however, i disagree that the Spirit is always the one who place their authority, for most problems in churches today resides in the leadership, because the leadership were formed without the consent of Spirit (though they may believe they are – reason for Matt 7:13-23). In which case, they don’t have any authority in Him since all authority comes from heaven. Casing examples would be pretty much any of the covenant lawsuit prophets send to the nations in OT, likewise Jesus Himself spoke against the leadership of the Jewish religious leaders. but in most cases, i wouldn’t recommend anyone challenging the authority of the leaderships of these churches as the prophets do, unless they have direct calling from the Lord, so they know they’re under protection and authority of Christ Himself because in John 8, these people who are not having their eyes on the Lord… serves their father, the devil, they are in fact demonically oppressed themselves without knowing. so you must be aware what you are getting yourself into(and in most cases, as Jesus asked, wipe the dust off your feet and move on. in the ministry of Jesus, He didn’t go out of His way to rebuke or prophesize to the Pharisees or temple teachers, He does respond to them when they come to Him).
neways, thanks for this post, it’s solid. i’d like to link it on my page for others to view if you dun mind.
hmm, i sucessfully procrastinated another 30 mins from my studies.. hehe…
Some meat to chew on, Thank You again for sharing!

remember to pray ALL ways…
IRC, Thank you so much for reading my xanga and praying for me. You’re right, of course.
Isn’t there a scripture in the bible that says. Lay hands on nobody Suddenly. Or something like that? I believe in laying of hands.. but not in like groups. you know.. having everyone in a group lay hands on you. The reason I don’t is because we don’t know excatly where everyone in that room has been or the real intetions of the ones laying hands. There are many followers of darkness who play the role of a christian just to start up problems because people are so trusting and willing for any kind of spiritul anything to happen to them. People look for experience more than a true healing.

Thanks for your comments, we are victorious in Jesus!!

Thanks for the good comments! By the way, where in Scripture does it say demons are dis-embodied beings? Just curious.
Yes, when you are winning folks to Christ, Satan loves to muck up the works. However, in dealing with those who come out of the occult, I have found that many are not possessed but rather suffer more from guilt which manifests itself in various forms. In fact, if you are not trained properly, you would think they were possessed.
Too often we forget that before Satan can mess with one of God’s children, he must ask permission of God. In fact, you have to “allow” him as well, even if you are not saved. Demons cannot just drop in, they have to gain access through your sin where you have given them permission to. Not every unconfessed sin gets you possessed or oppressed. By the way, if you have not been to the NW then you have no idea just how occultic it truly is. Every fruit, nut, and new spirituality I believe is first tried out here before it makes itself known elsewhere. We are known for it. :>) My church is bordered by two cult churches!
I have also found it curious that the more churches that are involved in the manifestation of “spiritual gifts,” usually exhibit more of this kind of manifestation. Why would this be so? I think it is because so much of these kinds of ministries not only attract folks that suffer from these kinds of problems, but they encourage this kind of thing. It is self- perpetuating and is often not necessarily real but psychosomatic. There have been studies done of this oddity and it was discovered that these kinds of ministries encourage it because of what they teach about spiritual gifts, demons, and the Holy Spirit and how they influence people. Also it was discovered that more third-world or underdeveloped nations exhibited these kinds of demonic influences than other countries. Folks have argued why for decades.
It is good to know that Jesus said,”The Spirit of the Lord is upon me, because he hath anointed me to preach the gospel to the poor; he hath sent me to heal the brokenhearted, to preach deliverance to the captives, and recovering of sight to the blind, to set at liberty them that are bruised (Luke 4:18 KJV).”
I love the discussion you get going, girl! God bless you…I am praying for you! With much love, paula
Hi I enjoyed your post today. It is a beautiful, sunny day here in Jersey. It has been rainy all weekend and yesterday too. Have a blessed day. Lisa
Thanks for posting this ~I
Heather, I ‘ve been listening to Chuck Swindolls messages from the last few days.I then began browsing his website. His wife’s testimony is there, I think you should read it,because she suffered from depression for 7 years.

I’ve recovered from oral surgery just fine — thanks so much for asking! One of the first books I read that encouraged me to find a church was titled “Victory Over The Darkness”. It’s only been a few years ago that I read that book and until I read your post, had completely forgotten about this form of struggle. I also began (but never finished) the book “Bondage Breaker” which was interesting as well, it just became overwhelming for me to read as a new believer without a “base” of any sort. For me, it is a struggle to know where God wants me and how to tackle all that He could be calling me to be a part of. I guess it’s time to get quiet before the Lord and truly seek the path He wants me to follow. Thanks so much for your daily posts — have a great day with God!
~Peggy~
Thanks for commenting and this post!
Only Jesus rules!! =D
Have a good day

“We are the vessel, not the master, and we must observe the laws and the leading” <– that is a truth that can inform all parts of our lives. Thank you for sharing that! And you were definitely right about South Pacific. “You’ve got to be carefully taught” is probably my favorite song from that movie because of how powerful it is. Have you ever read “This Present Darkness” and “Piercing the Darkness” by Frank Peretti?
Good and informative post about a very misunderstood subject. As a child I was taught to “plead the blood of Jesus” over myself during any healing services whether there were demons or not. I’m afraid the majority of Christians aren’t being taught the dangers of “playing church” in this area. It’s the most serious and dangerous of all deliverance prayers.
Foundation of Faith Fellowship isn’t on google, in the phone book, nor in Gilbert Arizona. Check with the Chamber of Commerce if you don’t believe me. Saw this info on the net and checked it out for myself.
Too bad when Christians lie.
Thankyou
Dom

I’m having a blast!
Hi Heather…..just stopping by to say “hi” and hope that you are having a great day…..
Love you,
Sheryl
Thank you for your thoughts and memories on my blog.
This is a really interesting study you’re doing on casting out demons!
Setfreetoday, the verse you are thinking of is I Timothy 5:22 “Do not lay hands on anyone hastily, nor share in other people’s sins; keep yourself pure.”
Heather
Thanks Girl…I See the end of the madness!!!
Pastor Blastor, Jesus also said: Mark 16:15-18 “…Go into all the world and preach the gospel to every creature. He who believes and is baptized will be saved; but he who does not believe will be condemned. And these signs will follow those who believe: In My name they will cast out demons; they will speak with new tongues, they will take up serpents; and if they drink anything deadly, it will by no means hurt them; they will lay hands on the sick, and they will recover.”
This was said to HE WHO BELIEVES, well we are believers, and I think some churches are selling short what Jesus has told us to do. You are right I think that the churches that do signs and wonders probably do have a greater manifestation of demonic influence, and that makes sense. If you are an army general would you not deploy your troops to the places where the resistence is strongest to break up the pocket of resistence. Churches that are doing the works Jesus told them to do (genuine churches, some do play at it), will attract satan’s attention for he will want to inhibit them from doing good works.
