  • I get to see Pastor Don today!!!!! So much to share with him. He is an awesome Pastor and Mentor.

Have to share a funny story with you. Yesterday that song I wrote kept me chuckling, so I called my friend to share it with her. I sung it and she said, “When you share it with Pastor Don tomorrow, try singing it to the tune of “Swanee River.”

    I said, “I thought I was.”

Julie laughed and said, “Well then, sing it the way you just did.”

Sigh, I cannot carry a tune in a wheelbarrow, so I think I can safely assume the music minister anointing is not on me. I have the anointing of appreciating the music ministry and a voice only God can love unless he does a MIGHTY miracle. Perhaps it is kind to the world that I save my loud singing for when I am driving alone in the car with my worship CD’s playing.

This morning I went back on Weight Watchers (can use prayers for this because weight is such an emotionally charged area for me. The good news is I start this time 17 pounds less than when I started the last time. So I did not regain all that I lost, but I need to get this under control.

Today I was in the shower and crying, sorting out some issues, and as usual after chatting with God, (I do pray when out of the shower as well and do Bible studies, but the shower is one place I am guaranteed of being alone for a period of time). And ended up smiling. I don’t know what God is doing, but here are a few lyrics that came to me this morning, just the seed of an idea.

Remember the kid’s song, “If you’re happy and you know it clap your hands.”

If your saved and you know it clap your hands.
If you have the joy of the Lord, shout hooray,
    Satan’s underfoot, stomp your feet.

Any other ideas. I suspect that someone somewhere else has come up with the above same idea, but it was fun.

This is blowing my mind, two mornings in a row, two song seeds, this has never, ever happened to me before.

I will try to share more Bible study later today but wanted to touch base with you. It is another day of running around.

    Have a blessed day.

  • Was taking a shower this morning and talking with God. Then I started laughing when this song came to me, it is sung to the toon of Swanee River. Let me know what you think. God sure does have a sense of humor!

    Jesus, How I Love You

Jesus, how I love you, how I love you,
    My dear beloved Savior.
You gave your life for me….
    up on Calvary-
even now you’re waiting for me,
    praying for me,
    right by the Father.
Satan’s world will hold me no more,
now that I went through Salvations’ door.

Have a blessed day. I have lots of errands to do, one of which is to pick up a birthday cake for my oldest son. He turned 17 today, my how the years fly.

  • Pastor Don has asked me to write a Bible study, I have avoided doing this for fear of not doing one good enough, having enough knowledge to do one, and creating one less than perfect. (One of the things that I need to learn to have faith for – as the questions in a previous entry pointed out).

Today I was reading in 1 John and a Bible study came to me. I just finished typing it out, and figure I will share it with you before turning it over to him.

    Satan’s Playbook

Can you imagine a football team making the Super Bowl with just three plays in their play book:  pass to right, sweep around the left, run up the middle? Once the other teams caught on, the team would have no chance to score.

I have lately been aware of how there are certain ways satan tends to attack me, and I fall for them way too often. Turn to 1 John 1:15-17 where John shows us that there are basically 3 plays in Satan’s play book.

    Satan’s Playbook contains

    1. The Lust of the Flesh
    2. The Lust of the Eyes
    3. The Pride of Life

He has used these same basic plays from the beginning of time.

    Look at Genesis 3: 1-6

Satan convinced Eve to sin using these plays.

Eve SAW that the tree was good for food and that it was pleasant to the eyes.

Eve ATE the fruit and gave it to her husband, the Lust of Flesh

Eve did this because SHE WANTED TO BE LIKE GOD AND KNOW GOOD AND EVIL. – The Pride of life.

All throughout the Bible, whenever people are tempted to sin, they succumb to the three plays of satan. Think of David and Bathsheba – Lust of eyes & Flesh, Cain and Abel- Pride over the sacrifice, Samson – Pride over his power,

Until the Second Adam, Jesus, came, we gave power to satan and fell into his traps.

Jesus in the temptation Matthew 4, was also presented with these same temptations during the forty days but he emerged victorious. Because Jesus, the Son of Man, was able to overcome these three plays from satan’s playbook, we too can overcome them, for as Hebrews 4:15 says “For we do not have a High Priest who cannot sympathize with our weaknesses, but was in all points tempted as we are, yet without sin.”

    Look at Matthew 4

1 satan, when Jesus had fasted 40 days, tempted Jesus to make bread from stones,  Instead of giving into this temptation, Jesus quoted :Matt 4:4

    2. satan then tempted Jesus with the Lust of the Flesh, by suggesting that he throw Himself down and God’s angels would protect Him. Jesus answered: Matt 4:7

    3. satan tempted Jesus with the Pride of Life, offering Jesus an easier way to gain the Kingdom of the earth, by worshipping satan. Jesus again answered – Matth 4:10

This lets me know that there is a way to defeat satan’s game plan in my life.

    1. We need to remember 1 John 1:17 – that “the world is passing away and the lust of it, but he who does the will of God will abide forever.” No matter how good the temptation looks in the flesh, we are only temporary residents in these fleshly suits, and have to look forward to eternity with God.
    2. Ephesians 6:12 “ For we do not wrestle against flesh and blood, but against principalities and powers, against the rulers of the darkness of this age, against spiritual hosts of wickedness in the heavenly places.” And that God gave us the armor to fight this battle. If we focus on God and the truth of God instead of the circumstances in our situation, we can see beyond the externals and not fall prey to the circumstances of our lives. God will take these temptations and lusts and allow satan to use them, but God will redeem them and will make beauty from ashes. These trials and temptations will be used by God to grow us up spiritually. The best way to stop having them come is to learn the lesson they are teaching and keep strong in our confession of the truth of God.
    3. That satan is a defeated foe that does not deserve place in our life. Once we were saved, satan lost his place in us. The only way that he can continue in our lives is if we allow him to touch areas of weakness. Honesty about our weakness, seeking God’s help, knowing his word, prayer, fasting, and standing fast in the truth will keep satan at bay. But until the end days, Revelation 20, when satan is finally cast into the lake of fire forever, he will go around in the territory Adam gave him, seeking whom he can devour. 1 Peter 5:8 “Be sober, vigilant; because your adversary the devil walks about like a roaring lion, seeking whom he may devour.”

One interesting fact about the role of a roaring lion in the jungle is that he is usually an elderly male, toothless, whose job is to hide in the bushes and when a herd comes toward it, to roar so loudly that the herd panics, reverses direction and then runs away into the jaws of the waiting younger lions. Our way to fight this roaring lion is to not panic, to not run but to stand in faith or attack with the Word of truth.

    1. We must guard ourselves against satan’s  attacks, keeping the full armor of God – Ephesians 6:14-17 and with prayer.
    2. One way to fight satan with power is God’s Word, which is why the memory verses are so important. We need to know the Word of God so well that when satan comes at us, we don’t even have to puzzle out what word of God to use against him.
    3. We need to keep exercising our faith in the face of circumstances.

For me, I often give in way too quickly to the attacks of satan. I tend to look more at circumstances than at the truth of God and His Word, and the awesome work of Jesus on the Cross. I plan to fight this battle more strongly this year, it is time that satan realizes he has no place in my life.

Even though satan started out with his playbook in Genesis, it is important to remember that God countered that play in Genesis 3:15 “And I will put enmity between you and the woman, and between your seed and her Seed; He shall bruise your head, and you shall bruise His heel.”

God gave us the greatest gift of all, Jesus, who once and for all defeated satan. Knowing this, we need to learn to “stand fast in the Lord” – as Philippians 4:1 states, for if we do so, we will no longer fall for the plays of a defeated foe.

    Comments and suggestions are welcome.

    Have an awesome day,

  • I was reading in Lynn Gail’s site about Leah today, http://www.xanga.com/LynnGail

She talked about the rejection that Leah must have felt when she was so rejected by Jacob. It recalled to my mind an exercise I did in the Beth Moore Bible study called the Patriarchs, We had to list all the offspring of Leah and Rachel and their comments. I am going to share those here.

Reubin – Mom -Leah “It is because the Lord has seen my misery. Surely my husband will love me now. Made by Leah

Simeon – Mom -Leah Because the Lord has heard that I am unloved, he has therefore given me this son also. Made by Leah

Levi – Mom -Leah – Now this time my husband will become attached to me because I have born him three sons – Made by Leah

Judah – Mom – Leah = Now I will praise the Lord – Made by Leah

Dan – Mom – Bilhah – God has judged my case and He has also heard my voice and given me a son – Made by Rachel

Naphtali – Mom – Bilhah – With great wrestlings I have wrestled with my sister, and indeed I have prevailed – Made by Rachel

Gad – Zilpah – A troop comes – Made by Leah

Asher – Zilpah – I am happy for the daughters will call me blessed – Made by Leah

Issacher  Leah – God has given me my wages, because I have given my maid to my husband. Made by Leah

Zebulon – Leah = God has endowed me with a good endowment; now my husband will dwell with me, because I have born him six sons. – Made by Leah

Dinah – Leah (No comment made, Dinah was a girl, sigh)

Joseph – Rachel – God has taken away my reproach, the Lord shall add to me another son. Made by rachel

Looking at the first four statements of Leah, you can see how Leah’s mindset changed.

Surely my husband will love me now – Reuben

    I am unloved – Simeon

I will be loved because of what I did – Levi

He doesn’t love me, so I will praise the Lord – Judah

Beth Moore goes on to say:

“The name Judah means praise. Leah finally-if temporarily- progressed to a place where God became the only sense in a senseless spiral, and she gave Him praise. If only Leah could have remained in the mindset of praise for all she had instead of returning to misery for all she lacked, how different her life would have been! Instead, she did what you and I have also done at times. She allowed circumstances (Rachel’s children through Bilhah and her own inability to conceive) to eventually catapult her back to the old mindset, and she picked up her familiar obsession again.”

“Haven’t we had similar experiences? Has God ever brought you through a very painful process where you were finally able to think victoriously Then over time did something happen to catapult you back into the old cycle of defeated thinking? Have we lost ground we worked so hard to gain? Let’s regain the freedom we lost! Our liberator has not changed. Beloved, let’s allow God to show us our deepest desperation is for Him. The troubled child of desperation is obsession, but the healthy child of desperation is devotion. Our desperation will birth something. What will it be?”

I have to tell you that for me it is so easy to spiral back to the old desperation, and much harder to hold onto what I have achieved. Praying this year will birth more devotion and less obsession in me.

    Have an awesome day!

  • Friday Bible study

Today we discussed the implication of some of the questions we filled out (see a few entries ago).

Regarding the areas we have the most difficulty having faith for, Pastor Don said that there are several reasons why it is hard to have faith in a particular area. That we need to access those reasons and take action to change our attitudes.

    1. One area is when we have had a failure in believing for something. Then we assume that we will always not be able to have faith in that area.

    2. Our upbringing can give us many wrong teachings. Our parents can instill wrong beliefs in us. Sometimes even in a religious environment, parents do not teach truth. They make kids feel that they are wrong when they can’t have faith in an area. They don’t teach that you can have right beliefs, the right word, even the right idea, but if our hearts are in the wrong place, God may not honor the words, for His concern is more where our hearts are. If our hearts are not right, God isn’t in it.

    3. Our own limitations and blindsides can affect our faith. We can spend more time focusing on our circumstances than on the truth of God’s word.

We need to realize that the problem stems from us, not God. That nothing is too difficult for God. That if there is a problem it stems from within us. We have to be honest because Jesus is the way, the truth and the life. We have a greater chance of having our needs met if we are honest with God, God can work with honesty. Hypocrisy, pretending to have great faith when you have little faith, putting on a front will not help you to gain the faith necessary for change. Way better to go to the elders, to the pastor, to God and own up to the fact that you are having trouble believing in an area, and ask for help in building up your faith. God knows our heart, so it is best to be honest with God.

Some people have faith in faith, and that doesn’t work either. We have to have faith in God. Pastor Don gave the example of Peter walking on the water. That Peter focused on asking Jesus to tell him to walk on the water, then he did, ignoring the wind and waves. Peter did very well until he took his eyes off of Jesus, then he sank. Peter lost it when he examined his faith, instead of just focusing on God. We must have God in the midst.

We grow our faith, we do steps towards greater and greater faith.

Often in our country (as opposed to countries where there isn’t freedom of religion) we are a Word rich country. We are steeped in the Word of God, but knowing the Word, being able to teach the Word, is not all that is needed. We are not so good at acting on the Word.

Many pastors and people are afraid to pray prayers of faith for healing, they think, “What happens if it doesn’t work.” and then doubt and unbelief limit the faith. We need to pray, meeting the person where they have faith.

Pastor Don told of a time when he was in India, and there were many healings, but one child was brought to him that was so crippled, that he had compassion for her, but did not have the faith to pray a prayer for healing. He prayed, but no healing came. Later he discovered that many parents there took their kids to other temples for a multitude of gods to pray for them, then as a last resort they come to the Christian God. The parents also deny their children medicine that could help them, so there is much demonic influences around them. Pastor Don talked about this child to the other pastors, and mentioned what the Holy Spirit had told him regarding the child. He realized that, had he known all that beforehand, the parents would have to be councelled and the demonic influences broken before a healing could occur. Pastor Don said that he prayed to God to never have that kind of doubt again, to never just accept the circumstances.

God doesn’t play for half a success or a reversible success, God wants total healing.

Pastor said that to pray in boldness without faith is stupidity. It can also hurt other’s faith. If you are not believing in faith and you pray for someone, your prayer may not be answered. You really need to ascertain what the person you are praying for has faith for, and pray a prayer of agreement, (where two or three are gathered), to pray in unbelief or uncertainty can cause a person to lose what trust they have in God. Far better to find a person who has faith in a particular area and bring the person to them for prayer, or an elder of the church (and hopefully the elders have faith and are not just elders in name).

To pray in boldness with faith paves the way for creative miracles.

If there is a problem with a person, and you cannot have the faith for them, James 5 should be put into action, that you call the elders and pray the prayer of faith. The prayer of faith is Romans 4:17, Mark 11:23-24.

Some people believe that you pray one time and the problem goes away. In some instances that is the case, but in others it is important to keep praying, keep saying until faith comes, and you know that you know that you know.

Sometimes it takes time for the circumstances to change, think of how long it took Abraham believing in faith for a child, to have his son. Abraham had to believe in faith, in a seemingly impossible circumstance.

When an anointing is prayed on you, you have the anointing within you, but you must also act on the anointing. Pastor Don said that in many instances when a true healing anointing is prayed over a person they seem to get sicker before they get better. That is satan’s last ditch attempt to get the person to believe the circumstances rather than believing the truth.

If you find that you are weak in faith, the best thing to do is to admit it, to be honest, humble. And ask for more prayer, ask to start all over again.

If you think about it, if you pray and the thing does not happen, either God messed up (not possible) or we have to suffer (not the truth).

We have to ask the Holy Spirit to show us where we are weak in faith and begin to build those areas up inside of ourselves.

Sometimes we are praying or believing for something that isn’t God’s plans for us, and satan is happy to have us waste the effort in that pursuit. So we have to make sure that God is there, for He will give us the desires of our Heart, but that is if we are focusing on God.

Pastor Don gave a silly example, of a person who wanted to believe in faith that they would be a ballerina, but they are 60 years old, never had dance lessons, are out of shape, have no sense of rhythm, and two left feet.  And they were not gifted from God in this area. This could be an example of faith in the wrong thing. That the person would best look to areas where God gifted them and advance those.

Everything we do is based on a need. We need to identify those needs. So many are filled with false humility, hypocrisy. We need to be honest about our needs. God does not have a problem with needs, just with religiosity.

Pastor Don said that he loves to counsel with people, to help them grow spiritually. He does it from love of God, but there is also a need and a pride that he has when he sees people grow, especially those who are hard cases. He realizes this need and uses it to advance God’s kingdom, but He doesn’t cop a phony attitude of doing it only for God. He realizes that he too gets something from doing God’s work.

Altruistic people are the most selfish because they gain so much from the good that they do.

Selfishness can be altruistic, or it can be destructive. Again it boils down to a heart issue.

The only way to get our needs met is to die to self, and when we do that, dying to our immediate gratification, do we find what it is that we really need.

Then regarding question 2, we find difficulty in faith, where we have failed before. And God, in his infinite mercy will permit us to keep being tested in that area until we finally overcome the difficulty to our faith.

The area (question 3) where we are strongest in faith is where God has done a sovereign move in our lives.

We then had to answer three questions (which we turned in to Pastor Don).

    1. Describe ourselves honestly. Adjectives. One thing I put down is that I am often insecure, feeling that others are far better than me, and others often don’t see me as insecure. I also pointed out that I feel that I mucked up so much that it is hard to believe that God can really use me. Etc.

    2. We had to describe the kind of person who we would have a tough time discipling. I put down a mean, angry, aggressive person that would remind me of my father.

    3. We then had to describe the kind of person we could easily disciple. I put down someone with a similar past to mine, for there would be much compassion for them.

Pastor Don pointed out that as Christians we must be loving to all types. That in the Bible there is no personality profile of Jesus, he was tough in situations that required toughness, tender and soft, He was flexible and adopted to whomever He was working with.

That we need to love all, even those who are tough for us to love, and to reach to them to be what will help them to be a follower of Jesus.

Tough stuff for me, but I am so convicted that there is much that I need to work on. I am praying that I accurately am relaying what was taught today, it was a tough lesson, and one that could be easily misunderstood if I blow it in taking proper notes. Sometimes written words do not convey what the spoken word is really implying. Any errors is just my difficulty in these areas.

Hoping you have a blessed day.

  • Two fun things sent to me by my sister-in-law:

    1.

Announcing the new Built-in Orderly Organized Knowledge device (BOOK)

It’s a revolutionary breakthrough in technology: no wires, no electric circuits, no batteries, nothing to be connected or switched on. It’s so easy to use even a child can operate it. Just lift its cover. Compact and portable, it can be used anywhere –even sitting in an armchair by the fire–yet it is powerful enough to hold as much information as a CD.

Here’s how it works: Each BOOK is constructed of sequentially numbered sheets of paper (recyclable), each capable of holding thousands of bits of information. These pages are locked together with a custom-fit device called a binder which keeps the sheets in their correct sequence. By using both sides of each sheet, manufacturers are able to cut costs in half. Each sheet is scanned optically, registering information directly into your brain. A flick of the finger takes you to the next sheet.

The BOOK may be taken up at any time and used by merely opening it. The “browse” feature allows you to move instantly to any sheet, and move forward or backward as you wish. Most come with an “index” feature, which pinpoints the exact location of any selected information for instant retrieval. An optional “BOOKmark” accessory allows you to open the BOOK to the exact place you left it in a previous session — even if the BOOK has been closed. BOOKmarks fit universal design standards; thus a single BOOKmark can be used in BOOKs by various manufacturers.

Portable, durable and affordable, the BOOK is the entertainment wave of the future, and many new titles are expected soon, due to the surge in popularity of its programming tool, coming soon, the Portable Erasable-Nib Cryptic Intercommunication Language Stylus…..

    2. http://fun.from.hell.pl/2003-11-24/bubblewrap.swf

It is bubblewrap which is fun to pop online, but I was caught by the address of this site -fun from hell????? Made me think, so many of the things that we waste time on, things that take us away from God and his kingdom are really fun, but also they could be sent by satan to keep us from doing the work. Calls to mind that even the fun things need to be monitored and done with moderation.

Yet, the bubble wrap is fun so enjoy that.

My kids go back to school tomorrow unless there is a snowday, and they are a bit bored today, so the timing is right. I will try to post some new stuff tomorrow, but am spending the last few hours with them and studying. Have a blessed day.
